Look of the Week: Jessica's Beautiful Blues!
Look of the Week: Jessica's Beautiful Blues!
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 2014

There's just something about eye-catching, eye-enhancing looks lately that we're loving for the holiday season here at e.l.f. Since the holidays can have you so pressed for precious makeup-applying time, anything eye-enhancing is a quick way to give any look an extra pop! Much like Emma Stone's green-eyed look last week, this week, I love Jessica Chastain's smoky blue eye look. Along with her blue dress, this eye look is right on-trend for pre-winter festivities, and, of course, it makes her blue eyes look positively beautiful!

Dark shadows like the ones used here are much more prone to creasing and definitely need a primer, so be sure to prime your lids with your favorite e.l.f. primer before geting started. Then, use a neutral, brightening shadow all over the whole lid. Our Mineral Eyeshadow in Innocent is great for this, plus it's matte! You can also try our Mineral Eye Brightener as an eyeshadow as well. Now, with a precise brush, like our Studio Contour Brush, apply our Mineral Eyeshadow in Partier (Also matte!) to the outer "V" of the eyes. Blend softly inwards with the Essential Blending Eye Brush. For eyeliner, take our Studio Cream Eyeliner in Midnight, and line the eyes using the Studio Small Angled Brush. For an extra color pop, tightline too! Now for the shortcut secret: Apply our Studio Eye Enhancing Mascara in Black Sapphire! It's designed to enhance blue eyes specifically, so it's sure to make a great finishing touch for this stunning look. Plus, it's a total time-saver if you need to look put-together now in the midst of holiday hoopla.

For the rest of the face, definitely keep it subtle. Jessica has her brows neatly and softly groomed, so make it easy with our Studio Eyebrow Kit in your desired shade. Finish it up with a neutral gloss (Studio Glossy Gloss is always a safe bet, non-stick and so many colors) and you're all set for holiday glam! Wasn't that easy?

What are your time-saving holiday beauty tips?

How To: The Perfect Holiday Lip!
How To: The Perfect Holiday Lip!
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 2014

Can you believe it elfettes? The holidays are almost here! Since holiday makeup looks tend to be pretty and classic, I love the look of a deep, rich, red lip for any holiday party. Here's a quick way to create a beautiful lip look that lasts all day, that's totally on trend and great for the fall-to-winter transitional period!

step 1: Any lip look needs to start with a smooth canvas! Prep with your trusty Studio Lip Exfoliator to slough off any dry, chapped skin.
step 2: One of our favorite tricks to make your color last and last! Cover your lips in a concealer that matches your skin tone patting it around your natural lip line with a finger. The Studio Complete Coverage Concealer is a great option, because it's easy to get a matching color.
step 3: Apply our Studio Matte Lip Color in Rich Red all over your lips. I know I absolutely love the matte finish on these pencils.
step 4: Taking our Studio Lip Liner & Blending Brush in Wine, line around your lips to lock the color in. Perfect party pout insurance!
step 5: Using the Studio Small Precision Brush, take the Studio Baked Highlighter in Moonlight Pearls, and highlight your Cupid's bow. This adds such a nice, flirty touch, along with great definition!
step 6: Last but not least, a little sneaky trick! Taking a lip brush, like our Studio Retractable Lip Brush, apply a bead of Studio HD Blush in Showstopper to the corner of the lips, and blend towards the center. This easy lip contouring trick gives the illusion of fuller, plump lips, and the long-lasting pigments of our HD Blush make sure this color isn't going anywhere!

What's your go-to holiday party look?

Look of the Week: Emma's Green-Eyed Glam!
Look of the Week: Emma's Green-Eyed Glam!
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2014

Source: Shutterstock

Let me preface this post by saying, I adore Emma Stone! I'm a fan of her films, and she has always struck me as so down-to-earth, with such a natural radiance of inner beauty. This recent look of hers made me so happy as a fellow green-eyed gal! While it's natural to assume that wearing green eyeshadow is bound to make green eyes pop, I find it can be difficult to pull off. The temptation is to instantly go with a bright lime color, which can be way too overwhelming. Instead, try a subdued, moss green shade. It works wonders, as Emma so beautifully demonstrates here.

My latest favorite shadow for this look comes from our Essential Holiday 32 Piece Eyeshadow Palette. I use the green shade, third from the left on the bottom row of the palette on its own, but you can also mix it with one of the black or slate gray shades to change the tone easily. Plus, all of these shades have just the right amount of shimmer to them, they're far from glitter shadows, but they have just enough to add a touch of holiday glamour to your look! Green eyeliner is another must for this look. Apply our Studio Cream Eyeliner in Metallic Olive along the lashline and inner rim with an eyeliner brush like our Studio Small Angled Brush for a subtle enhancement. Or, if you want to amp up the shimmer, apply our Shimmer Eyeliner Pencil in Twinkle Teal in the same spots.

I love the coral tone in the rest of her face that keeps the heavy eyes very balanced, and plays off her fair skin beautifully. Try our Studio Blush in Candid Coral on the apples of the cheeks, using the Studio Angled Blush Brush to really define your face. To keep your blush looking more like a natural flush, pop a small dab of it on the tip of your nose and chin, and in the center of your forehead as well. Top your lips off with a coat of our Mineral Lipstick in Cool Coral to finish it off.

What's your favorite eye-enhancing look?
