The Ultimate Prom

Tuesday, July 01, 2008

It’s been awhile since I got primped for prom, but I dusted off my corsage, drenched my locks in hairspray and put on my 4” heels to relive it again!  However this time around it was a bit different, I now was the professional makeup artist as opposed to the student. The glitz & glam of media, celebrities, and red carpet also are impressively different from my memories of simplistic balloons and streamers of what I knew prom as. “The Ultimate Prom” was truly ultimate, hosted by Hearsts Magazines and Universal Motown, they spared no expensive to give the seniors of St. Francis Prep a night to remember.
While prom was about to start me and most of the celebrities sipped on lattes and we dished on our own proms and high school experiences while I did their makeup for the concert. Their custom made gowns were stunning (I even got a compliment from Jojo that she loved my dress)! Some celeb sightings included: Jada, Suai, Jojo, Ashanti and Lloyd...just to name a few.  We also had a photo booth where the stars and students got a chance to get touched up on their makeup and snap a pic to capture the memory of prom forever.
What do you remember most about Prom?

Both my junior prom and my senior prom I attended "stag" (without a date). I still had fun, danced with my guy friends, oohed and ahhed over my friends' dresses, and all the other prommy stuff; the only difference was that I didn't have all the stress of worrying about a date. When I started college and joined a sorority, I got to experience plenty of dances with dates; but it was cool to be a single girl for my 2 proms, too.

I remember my date having to carry me around because my feet hurt so bad from wearing 4 1/2 inch heels all night long (my dress was too long and I didn't want to get it altered.) But other than that the night was great, and I absolutely LOVED my Jovani dress! It took a 5 hour drive to find and $550, but it was worth every penny....boy, how I would love to be in high school again.

Being at the salon for 2 hours while they put spirals in my hair w/2 curling irons and 2 bottles of hairspray. It was an exaustive effort for the two stylists but my hair stayed put all night.

My favorite memory about prom was when my best friend decided she couldn't bring herself to go to prom because she was afraid to see her best guy friend with his girlfriend. She really liked him. But instead, we spent the whole night together just having fun. It was much better and she's always gorgeous. :)

I felt really sick & had to hide in the washroom for the buss to wear off before I got to take pics.. it was crazy cuz we cant let the teachers know we had drinks.. \ luckily the buzz and sickness went away after an hr.. & everything was back to normal.. it was an amzaing night JUST DUN drink on a empty stomache

What I remember most about Prom is the after-party! We'd spend the night at one of our friends' house, and all our parents brought us breakfast the next day. What a blast! And the dresses and makeup didn't hurt. :)

Acutally, I love everything about prom! all the pictures, the dresses, limos. the food.. ours was on a battle ship and it was awesome because we got a full panoramic view of San Francisco bay lit up in the midnight sky and fireworks.

funny, the thing i remember most about the prom is shopping for a dress with my best friend. the prom itself is a vague and blurry memory... but dress shopping was the best! trying on all those dresses i'd always wanted to wear but had no place to weat them. i actually bought 2 prom dresses - i found one last minutre that i liked better. i still have the one i didn't wear, price tags still on, but i have no idea where the actual dress i had on at the prom has disappeared to...and NO, i didn't leave it behind that night!

My prom was a total disaster! My friend accused me of hitting on a guy she liked -- but who had a girlfriend -- and ruining her prom night! She made a huge scene and everyone talked about the drama for days later. It was insane.

The best part about Prom was that everyone was able to just be themselves, all your friends you may have drifted apart from, or ones you just recently got to know. There were no associations with the typical high school stereotypes, classes, clubs, or anything of that nature. Everyone was just happy to have at least one last time together as a group of that graduating year, and were looking forward to new beginnings. Dress and makeup shopping wasn't too bad either!

We had so much fun getting dressed up & it was nice not having to worry about dates! I definitely have better memories of my senior prom than of my junior prom.

Atmosphere, that's what I remember the most about my prom. The energy of it all, the sense of completing something after four long years. At my prom we really partied like it was going out of style. However we did so with style, around our friends and we keep it mature, and that coupled with amazing music, makes for a party with an atmosphere to remember even after 11 years.

The thing I remember most about my prom is when I walked into the door I felt like all eyes were on my date and I. I wasn't the most popular or the pretties girl in school so it had to have been who I walked in with. I had asked a friend of mine from another school to go with me. He said yes and was very nice about it. I guess what stunned eveyone is that since I'm a pretty fair complexion and my date was well, seriously on the darker side. He was african american and I was the whitest girl there. I don't have issues with inter-racial couple but when my date and I walked it seemed like NO one had ever seen an inter-racial couple. We had a wonderful time but I've never had so many pictures taken in one night!!!

My "best friends" at the time had been planning since fall on going together and renting a limo and all of the trimmings and had the nerve to not ask me if I wanted to join them. I ended up going to my senior prom with a friend that I knew from church. With all of the girls from my church youth group drooling over this guy, I always giggled to myself that I was the only one to ever actually go on a date with him! I found out later that I was only the first out of 3 different prom dates (and 3 different proms as well) he had that weekend. kind of burst my bubble a bit.

Like most, I remember how beautiful all the girls dressed up, everyone in their pretty dresses trying to out pretty everyone else's, but not in a mean way, of course. Mine was unique as I wore just a nice long velvety black dress, while most had on pinks and blues. But the one thing that I remember most about prom was one of my guy friends who had been pining away for this one girl, finally mustered the courage to say something to her...it was very sweet, the only problem was that it was prom...and she had not attended alone. (there wasn't any drama, no confrontation or anything, only a broken heart) But hey, that's high school.

I had to drive as noone else had a car LOL. Billy my date was so fun to be with and it was a great evening all the way thru, some memories of HS that I actually enjoy thinking about. Man do I wish yall were in buisness back then it would have made my HS years alot easier! WE did the dinner before, the prom, after party thena get together for a slumber party at Billy's so it was great. I ended up going to 5 promss but this was the best and I had the most fun at this one and I still think I look great in the pics I have!

That looks like a great prom! Mine wasn't nearly as glamorous. My prom date led me out onto the balcony and told me he liked me, which completely took me by surprise. It didn't turn out too well though because we were both seniors, so I told him I didn't think it was a good idea for us to start dating seeing as how we'd be leaving for separate colleges after a short summer.

The thing I most remember about my prom from over 14 years ago: DIY fake finger nails that popped off during our group dinner at really nice restaurant! So embarrassing. Thank goodness I had long black gloves to cover it up. That was well before I discovered manicures (I grew up in a small California town).

The person my mother hired to do my hair didn't know how to style a girls hair for a formal occasion, so I ended up with just curled pony tail with wispy strands. They guy I really wanted to go to prom with (he was a year younger) got asked the day before I could ask him by one of his friends) so I didn't get to go to my Prom with the guy I wanted to. I thought it was going to be miserable, but I remember I ended up going with a good friend from work and had a blast in the end. Looking back, I would go with him again in a heart beat :).

I remember getting my dress on, putting on my makeup on, and having a wonderful time. Our theme was "Arabian Nights", and it was spectacular!

Hi, It was fabulous, all my friends were dressed as gourgeous princess (included me). Also I remember that I danced with a guy who I had a crash and I barely could move my legs. Lol.

That I wish I had purchased another dress, I wish I didn't have the date I had, I wish I didn't wear my hair the way I did... gosh, if I could go back I'd change a whole lot! ;)

I remember going to four proms throughout high school and feeling so beautiful at every one. Even the people I could care less about were just having fun and enjoying themselves.

i remember prom for the wonderful bonding session I had with my mom and my best friend, doing each other's makeup and fixing our looks. That's the fun part about proms - the more colors, the more shine and sparkle - the better! I remember wondering to myself how it would feel when my daughter is getting ready for her big night... I'm sure I'll try to make it just as special as my mom did for me :-)

I remember the dress shopping the most. My junior year, my mother made my dress and my senior year I found my dress at the store I least thought I'd find it at. Lesson: look everywhere! Also, I remember my senior prom the most because I went to it with my (now) husband!

What I remember most is actually after the prom. It was customary that everybody went out to a diner and had breakfast in the wee hours . It was so much fun showing up all in our gowns and then pigging out on cheeseburgers and the like with most of your classmates.

Oh my gosh i remember my prom date arriving to get me.Id spent all day at the hair salon, manicurist, everything was in place. My dress was awesome. My dad yelled up the stairs to tell me my date was there.I came sauntering casually down the stairs, our eyes meeting and gazing. It was a spellbinding moment until i tripped over one of my three year old little brothers toys.I hit the bottom like a rock.Needless to say I straightened up what i could, was majorly embarrassed and way to sore to dance.

what i remember best about my prom was feeling like a princess. i have only had this feeling 3 times in my life--2 proms and my wedding day. to me, it meant going all out. buying the perfect dress and shoes. having hair, nails, make-up done. luckily i have always had the perfect date/partner!!!!

I remember the chocolate covered strawberries! I went to prom in CA with my boyfriend at the time. Off to one side of the dance floor were tables covered in chocolate covered strawberries. Outside, there was a second dance floor and a station for karaoke. That was an interesting addition.

I haven't been to prom yet but i have been to a bunch of formal dances that were almost identical to prom. What i remember most is having more fun getting my hair and makeup up done with my friends and picking out the dress then actually being at the dance.

Oh man... Prom... I remember it was the last night of high school to really dress up and look good and show everyone else in the senior class what you were made of. I kept it so simple and barely wore any makeup. I didn't even do my hair, I pulled it back into a sleek ponytail and clipped a flower in it. I remember getting a lot of compliments on my shoes (which are still my favorite black pair of strappy heels!) and on my dress because it was short compared to everyone else's. I had a great night. I skipped out on post prom and my boyfriend and I slept in the car in front of my house until 4 in the morning because we were so tired.... It was great....=)

Since my prom was less than a month ago i can remember everything. Years to come i will remember my best friend helping my Boyfriend pick my corsage at the flower show she works at. it of course was a secret until the day. it was so far a way from the perfect corage. the colour she ordered was GREEN. green is not "neutral" like i hinted at and she knows lime green does not go with my beige dress. i remember my mum storming in to the flower shop and replacing it. it was very funny now that i look at it.

I remember that my feet hurt like heck but I danced the night away. I was so concerned about my makeup that at the begining of the night I checked it every 30 min, but then I said, "what the hay!" I just wish the oil blot sheets were invented, or at the least someone had told me about it.
