You may have scored with holiday sales, but there is one thing if you are a designer buff to hunt for and that's the ohhh so exclusive Sample Sales!  Sample sales spring up in random places like Hotels or Lofts and can come and go within hours.  If you have lived in New York you have probably frequented a few.  Here are a few websites I found that can help you on your hunt for designer wear.  Try also looking for designer resale stores in your area for great prices on your favorite labels!

sample sales are amazing places to go for great deals. most of the time the sizes are a 6 or 8, so if that is your size you should definitely go! what's also great is warehouse sales where brands will clear old stuff from the past season. great discounts!

A very good sample sale company is Soiffer Haskin. You can go to their website and sign up to receive mailings about sample sales in the city, which are usually on 33rd street.

I have also found that garage sales are good places to find samples. I was lucky enough to find, among other things, a light blue brand new Liz Claiborne purse for only $5. Yes, I too was skeptical at first, but after speaking with the owner of the house, I found she was a buyer. In these tough economic times, there is no reason to not shop at garage sales.

I first read about this in Fortune magazine. A couple of ladies in New York started up DirtCheapCouture.com for those of us who can't make it to the sales. I thought this was an excellent business idea for the young fashionista/entrepreneur.

Since I live in a smaller town in Tennessee, we do not have smaple sales, but many smaller boutiques in town have resale designer labels that are normally last season but are great if you live for designers....

Sample sales are wonderful! I remember being in NYC (I live there, but I go to school in Buffalo) and walking into a designer jean sample sale... it was a little shady in there since it was sort of in the back streets of SoHo but the jeans were fabulous! For less than half price!

What I absolutely love about sample sales (outside of the ridiculously good deals the things are already on!!) is the fact that these are pieces the designer is looking to get rid of, and thus, it's perfectly acceptable to bargain. Depending on your luck, you're 50-75% sure the people are willing to accommodate you, but it also does depend on your luck, and whether it's at a warehouse or a private gallery. Anyhow, love, love, love sample sales! I've on several websites/event pages for them and always, try to hit up a couple every month/every other month or so. *YUM!

I've always been the type of shopper that knows how to find a good sale. Anytime there is a great sale going on you can usually find me not so far away. However, I have never heard of Sample Sales. I dont live in a big city so that could be why. I frequent Chicago often, so I may have to try to check out a sample sale on my next trip!

You might also be interested in trying Glamlist.com and Hautelook.com, both have interesting, cutting edge designer looks. Unfortunately for me as a Plus, I have to content myself with accessories, bags and shoes (not that it is difficult to be content with those!) as most of the sizes are, well, svelte. But don't let that stop you from looking; getting ideas for outfits is half the fun of attending fashion shows, reading fashion magazines, and shopping sample sales. Go for it!

I love the idea of a sample sale, even though there have never been any in my area. I love trying new things, its fun!!! I guess the closest thing I do is hit up makeup and beauty counters for free samples all the time! Clinique is great about giving out samples that usually last a week or two....still its cool to try the expensive products with no money out of your pocket!

There's a 'bargin basement' store in NH and MA called Building 19 that often gets Designer samples and sells them at incredibly low prices. One of their stores even has an entire building dedicated to Wedding Dresses and Designer Wedding Dress Samples. It's great for the bargain hunter.

I just want to say thank you for having such a good product for the price. I am a highschool student on a low budget that loves makeup. That a really good idea, I'm still kind of scared of some web sites so my why to hunt for designer clothes is going to TJ MAXX, I love it!! I can find pices for about 60 to 70% less that in stores, and it's always sure that I'll find my size, there's plenty of 0s and 1s.

I just got married in October and my dress was a sample dress. I got such a terrific deal and I looked fantastic in it. I am so glad that I took a chance on it. The dress was super clean and it only needed small alterations. I would recommend all brides to do this, and spend money other places.
