Why Mineral Makeup?

Friday, June 05, 2009

What’s the buzz on mineral makeup? Why is it so good? Well, it is estimated that 60% of what we put on our skin is absorbed into the bloodstream, it is only natural then that you consider before putting something on your skin, is this healthy and natural?

Our mineral makeup contains no parabens, no preservatives and no chemical dyes, it is 100% premium natural minerals. What does this mean?

Parabens:
Chemical preservatives that have been identified as estrogenic and disruptive of normal hormone function. (Estrogenic chemicals mimic the function of the naturally occurring hormone estrogen, and exposure to external estrogens that have been shown to increase the risk of breast cancer).

Preservatives:
Un-natural ingredients that are foreign to the body’s natural balance, and have little research in long term harmful effects. Preservatives are used in minimizing bacteria in moisture; mineral makeup has no risk of bacteria growth because of the powder formula.

Chemical Dyes:
Chemical dyes can be harsh on the skin, irritate, cause breakouts and cause allergic reactions.

Our mineral makeup is created with high quality micronized minerals, which is a process by which the minerals become microscopic and flat. The minerals overlay each other in order to protect your skin from the elements. These minerals and botanicals are beneficial to your skin and provide even coverage, while allowing the skin to breath and not have a cakey un-natural appearance. They feel light on your skin and won't clog pores, and will have you forgetting you are even wearing makeup. The products are formulated with minerals such as Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide, which provide broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection from the sun. They also are water/sweat resistant and non-allergenic, and can also help calm and soothe skin as they contain natural anti-inflammatory properties.

Mineral Makeup can be used daily for coverage of uneven skin tones, blemishes, rosacea, or simply for the sunscreen benefits. Mineral makeup is the only makeup that can be used after skin treatments such as: facials, laser surgery, microdermabrasion or chemical peels.

And as if all that wasn’t enough, all e.l.f. Natural Mineral Packaging is recyclable, because beautifying yourself and the world is a beautiful thing!

Why spend more for the “designer” brands when you can have the same quality at an affordable price? What do you think about our mineral products? Anything we should add to our line??

I absolutely LOVE ELF's mineral makeup line because the products are so wonderful. The mineral eyeshadow is by far my favorite because it has the right amount of sparkle and it comes in so many different shades for every mood/event. I like how the product and packaging are environmentally safe while saving people money. Many green products (especially in make-up and body care) are extremely expensive and it's great how ELF can provide such outstanding products at inexpensive prices.

I think the mineral makeup is GREAT!! i love knowing that it is good for your skin, and doesn't contain the harmful chemicals. But I also LOVE how well it covers your skin, and how great it makes you look! My only wish was that the lightest color that elf sells would be a little "fairer." It's too dark for my skin in the winter! But other than that, it's GREAT!!

I have been so impressed with ELF's mineral makeup that I have been using it everyday without any problems with my skin at all!! I bought the mineral starter kit with the foundation, concealer and blush. The coverage is light and weightless so I don't feel all "caked" when I wear it. I would suggest anyone purchase it from ELF before trying any other brand, for the quality and the price!!

I love mineral make-up because it doesn't feel heavy on the skin like liquid foundations do. Most of the liquid stuff feels like a mask on your face. Mineral make-up has also made my skin healthier looking and more even skin tone.

Your skin CANNOT physically absorb makeup or anything else, unless it is of a pharmacutical grade. Makeup only affects our outter layer of skin! If our skin absorbed everything into our blood stream - how would we shower, how would we put lotion on, how would we color our hair and live?????

I only recommend using powder Mineral Foundation if you use a face primer first because it seems like after a full day of wearing it, it wears off so easily. I still do not think that powder mineral foundation has the staying power of any liquid. I do however love mineral eye shadows! I was super surprised when I received my ELF mineral kit at how pigmented they actually were!

As long as the product is of a good quality than I won't spend on high end products. I haven't tried the mineral line yet but I will soon. I think if you could add some more colors that would be great. Everybody wants to save money or get more for the buck. So if you have quality products and a good selection you can't lose.

Hi, Basically, as the article says above, mineral make up is less worrisome. Also less ingredients means less likelihood that something will irritate your skin. However, the reason that I haven't as yet tried elf mineral make up is because most of elf products contain bismuth oxychloride, which is known to irritate skin. I've never tried mineral make up with bismuth oxychlorid but know a friend who did and had to stop using the make up because it irritated her skin. Please remove bismuth oxychloride from your mineral make up! Also, please remove parabens from all your products! Otherwise, you are doing a fantastic job!

I have been using minerals for several years now;I switched to ELF completely early this year, and am not disappointed. I use the foundation and blush, and occasionally the eyeshadow (I don't use eyeshadow often...) but my FAVORITE product is the new Booster. I love the sheer shine control, and that not only is it not "bad" for my skin, but that it is good for it! I use it on ordinary "no makeup" days with a touch of concealer and it gives my skin a healthy feel and enough of a groomed look to go out in the world and run errands, etc. I also use it as a final sweep for work and evening on top of my usual makeup (concealer, foundation, blush, eyes.) I think my favorite aspect of mineral foundation and booster, though, is the sun protection factor. I hate sunscreen on my face (I react to it, too) but I can get great protection, even at the beach, with a heavier application of mineral makeup. And I don't know if I'm imagining this, but a little heavier application of mineral powder on blemishes speeds the healing. Can you tell I'm a fan? I'm now waiting for ELF to produce that nightime skin treatment powder that the "other" company has. Can't wait!

the correctquestion to ask would be why spend more on designer brand when you can get more for less? my opinon would be just for the name people pay money just for a name. Just because a product is cheaper doesnt mean it doesnt work well. In most cases a "brand name" will attract more customers which means more money for the retailer. alot of people like myself would try a cheap product first to see if it will work. i love elf mineral products it does the job well for me!!! blending and smoothing and giving me that flawless look. I have tried other mineral products they are great too but oh in this recession I think i'll go with elf...lol

I guess it just reassures us that your product is good quality with a reasonable price. Sometimes I can't help to think that with the cheap price company are skimping out on quality. I just saw that there's spf in your mineral foundation! for $5. I'll have to try it now.

Let's just say...... I LOVE MINERAL MAKEUP by E.L.F. It is great! Same great coverage, but without the BIG expense! Not to crazy about all the Mineral eyeshadow with the glitter. The glitter pieces drop in my eyes and irritates my contacts all day. But the eyeshadow without glitter lasts all day long and I love it! Thanks! :)

I applaud that ELF has branched into Mineral Makeup. I stopped using your other products because of your Paraben and Urea ingredients. However, micronized minerals also pose a health issue. It would be helpful for you to list the actual micron sizes in your ingredients list. There is a large range for micronized particles. Anything that could be considered a 'nanoparticle' should be avoided.

I noticed a huge difference in quality, etc. When I ordered from E.L.F. I was a little skeptical because the price was so low, but I can honestly say that the quality is just as good as MAC. The mineral foundation goes on so evenly and I will continue to use E.L.F. from now on.

I have used other mineral products in the past, but found this one did not feel cakey on the eyelids or smudge. I thought it was great, especially since in summer time the heat usually melts away the makeup, but in this case the eyeshadow stayed the same as I left the house with it on. The next product I want to try out is the mineral lipstick in Party Pink, as \I love pink.

I've been using Bare Minerals for a few years now, and I haven't switched yet despite the expense. I have tried a few of the "drugstore" brands of mineral makeups, and not only did they cause me to break out, I didn't get the coverage I wanted. I guess the general fear is that something so inexpensive can't possibly be as "good" as the more expensive brands.

Mineral makeup is the only makeup I've used that doesn't make my skin break out. Ever since I discovered the Bare Minerals brand, I haven't looked back. I haven't tried E.L.F.'s mineral makeup yet. My fear is that something so inexpensive won't cover as well, or will make me break out, but after reading all the comments above I think I will try it!

Hmm...I first tried mineral make up a few years ago, and the difference between that and ELF was that the previous brand looked muddy on me and didn't show up. The pigmentation was terrible! ELF however went on smooth, and did not end up make me look like I had mud on my face (I am on the darker tan side!). And the pigmentation was GREAT! Will definitely be looking into this, especially since it does not break me out!

I adore the mineral lipstick. My favorite of any other brand I've tried. It feels creamy going on and seems to help moisturize. The color I bought, Bare, is light and perfect for summer days.

I am one of those ladies who has gone through menopause. Unfortunately, the heat just really takes a toll on me and my makeup. I sweat so much, that it just floats off my face. The mineral makeup DOES NOT do that. It stays with me all day and just a tiny touch up for evening. Bless you e.l.f. for this awesome makeup. The reasonable price allows me to try all the eyeshadow colors and lip colors, too. Thanks again, I'm a big fan!

I can't express how happy I am to have found e.l.f.'s mineral foundation. I used to use Bare Minerals, however on hot summer days, the heat would react with the makeup and my entire face would itch and burn...it was a very painful price to pay to look good! With e.l.f.'s mineral foundation and mineral booster I have never had a reaction, and I am happier with this product than I ever was with Bare Minerals. AND, at a 1/4 the price, there is a lot to be happy about! Itís nice to know that what I wear on my skin for so many hours each day is healthy and natural too! Thanks e.l.f.!!

To anyone that has never tried it, I definitely recommend that you at least give it a shot. You'll never go back to the old stuff.

I really like your mineral foundation and eyeshadow! I am sure I would like your other mineral products if I could get my hands on them. I think that you should add more mineral foundations and not just provide foundations for golden and neutral undertones. I was disappointed because you don't have a foundation light enough for me and do not offer foundation for cool undertones. So I recommend expanding your foundation selection. I also think that it would be a good idea to offer mineral eyeshadow in a pressed formation. I really like your mineral eyeshadow but the fallout is kinda annoying. Pressed foundation would be cool too, not many company's offer that. The last two things I think you could add to your mineral line would be mineral lip gloss and mascara. I am VERY pleased with the elf products that I have ordered and hope you will expand on your amazing collections.

I love mineral eyeshadow because I feel like it applies much easier. At first, it tended to fall underneath my eyes because the minerals are so loose, I found a trick to counteract it. I use the Elf cream eyeshadow and then apply the mineral eye shadow. Not only does it stay on all day, it is fun to experiment with colors and the texture.

My doctor says I have to use high quality products or my rosacea will get worse. Any thoughts? Anyone out there have rosacea and have used ELF products, mineral or otherwise? Thanks

I've tried the mineral makeup from elf and i was very surprised at its texture and its pigmentation, especially for how much it was. The mineral line by elf is absolutely amazing but it would be even more wonderful if there were more color selection of the all the products, for example a hot pink mineral shadow (wink wink!) But overall, the perfect description of the elf mineral line is simply "wow".

I've been using Mineral Makeup for eight years or so when Bare Minerals were still an infomercial. I've tried a lot of lower priced mineral foundations - Revlon, Physician's Formula, Neutrogena, etc. and NONE cover as easily or as well and the colors are downright weird. Nothing seems better than Medium Beige Bare Minerals but I'd love to find someting comparable at a lower cost. Is e.l.f. it?

I'm a huge fan of mineral makeup. I was just introduced to it in the past month, but loving it! Mineral foundation/concealer goes on so smoothly and leaves my face looking even and natural. The best part is, it looks natural and does not cause my skin to break out. As for mineral blush, you can use just a little bit and it goes a long way, a bit messy but totally worth it. I love mineral eye shadow as well. It goes on so evenly and lasts. Every woman should try atleast one mineral product, you too might switch to all mineral products! Mineral Concealer is by far my favorite!

I simply wish that ELF would put more effort into formulating colors for African-American skin tones - or for women of color, in general. I tried the mineral make-up and the shades were not good for me - very ashy. I have had this issue with most of ELF's face products, which is why I only use the lipgloss and eyeshadow at this point.

Instead of something to add could ask you drop something? Bismuth Oxychloride is why I stopped using B.E. and switched to Everyday Minerals. Bismuth Oxychloride makes me itch all summer long. Not as bad in the winter by why wear something that I react to half or more of the year. Otherwise I love mineral makeup.

I love elf minerals. Being a mom, you can't always afford to spend a lot of money on make up, then you are afraid that what you did buy mey not be good quality, but that is not the case with elf minerals. I love their whole line. You get quality and a deal in one. I have very sinsitive skin, but these don't irritate me like some of the drug store brands do. I love elf. This is by far my favorite make up line.
