Duochrome eye shadows are gorgeous applied normally- over your bare eyelid. But if you'd really like the nuances of color, apply the duochrome or iridescent shadow over a black base. A perfect base is the darkest color (a slightly shimmery black) in e.l.f.'s Black Licorice cream  shadow duo ($1). Using your finger or a taklon brush, apply Black Licorice to where ever you plan to accent the duo chrome shadow. A great way to do this is to leave the inner half of your upper lid bare and apply the black cream shadow to the outer half of your lid. In these makeup looks, you can see the differences and depth that a dark base adds to a duochrome eye shadow. All of my photos use Black Licorice on the outer half topped with eye shadow, and plain shadow on the inner half. For the rest of my eye makeup, I'm using elf's Tone Correcting Concealer in Light under eyes and inner corners; and elf Studio Lengthening and Volumizing mascara in Black. For an extra bonus... the Black Licorice cream base acts as a primer and grips your shadows to greatly increase wear! L'Oreal HIP loose pigment shadow in Intrepid Intrepid ($12) is like the chocolate mint of eyeshadows. It's a medium brown glitter shadow with flashes of bright green. Absolutely gorgeous in low and high light! Purely Cosmetics Soft Moon loose mineral eyeshadow Soft Moon shadow is actually a neutral steel gray when applied with a light hand. But when layered over top Black Licorice, accents of turquoise and sparks blue pop out of the charcoal gray base. This shadow ($6.50) looks amazing on any eye color!  Spell Cosmetics Aurora eye shadow Aurora ($8) applies to your bare lid as a medium pink with slight shimmer- when applied over Black Licorice brilliant highlights of blue and purple become visible. So basically by just adding a Black Licorice under your iridescent or duochrome eyeshadows, you can double up your shadow wardrobe! Do any gals out there wear duochromes?
