Botox

To Botox or not to Botox that is the question. As I venture into my late 20’s (gasp) I keep hearing from fellow colleagues and friends about getting Botox. With the barely there wrinkles I am stuck with the question, do I really need this yet? Some say it is preventable for the wrinkles to come, but I may just be a skeptic at this point. What do you think is the ripe age to Botox?
And for every valid web comment on this blog only we will give you a Free $5 e.l.f. coupon via email just to say thanks (1 per person, to the first 100 posts only).

I'm 29 and I had it a few months ago. I just hated seeing the crows feet starting to creep in when I smiled. I loved it but it faded after 4 months. I think it does prevent the wrinkles from getting worse.

I think it's all about aging gracefully. Especially when the wrinkles are so small because you're still young: there's no need to botox yet! Not until the wrinkles are really deep and even then, if you took good care of your skin, that won't be until you're pretty old and maybe won't want botox by then.

I don't think any age is the right age to Botox. Injecting Botulism into my face doesn't sound like a great idea. Love your face the way it is!

I just recently turned 27 and I know a lot of who people swear by botox, but at this point in my life I don't think its something I'll ever use, I mean it IS after all derived from a toxin that can be deadly, and if you over do it your face can look crazy and deformed. Bottom line, humans were meant to age, so I say lets do it gracefully.

As a 40-something woman I say you do not need to resort to Botox! I don't have many wrinkles and the ones I do have bring character. I love them and don't want to look frozen. I have kept to a regime of healthy diet, supplements and retina-A, always sunscreen, and great mosturizers. All have helped I believe!

I'm about to turn 28 and I am noticing the little tiny lines that form when I smile and the crows feet, however no one else notices them. I'll wait to botox until I have wrinkles that can be seen by people standing at least 2 feet from me, until then I'll keep slathering on the sun block and moisturizing every night!

I think that your late 20s is much to early to begin worrying about botox. You shouldn't worry about that until your early 40s i think. Take the money you would be spending on botox and instead buy yourself some new shoes!

Late 20's I believe is way too young to get Botox. It's not a preventable treatment either it's only temporary. You shouldn't get botox it just makes you look artificial like a plastic doll. Someone with wrinkles they have smiled, frowned, cried, etc. I know that sounds corny but it's my thought.

I do not think that there is a ripe age. I feel that if you have frown lines that are developing between your brows or in other places botox might be a good idea to prevent them from getting worse and to possibly help them fade altogether. I do not feel you should get botox just to get botox - if you do not have any lines at all why get it just because everyone else is. I have seen some very young women though with very lined foreheads and botox may help with this. But go to someone who is good so that you do not look plastic. A few mild lines add character to a face.

I'm all for a little enhancement when needed, but I think starting to get Botox in your 20's is a little ridiculous. There's probably not a single wrinkle on the face when you're twenty-something. I'm in the early 30's and I still don't have a wrinkle on my face. While I do believe that some wrinkles and aging is inevitable, I don't think Botox or any other facial procedure is a necessary thing until someone reaches their 40's. Enjoy life - your in your 20's & 30's , don't worry about wrinkles.

Why are you considering Botox at any age? Botox is a derivative of botulism - even though it has been treated to destroy the bacteria, it still acts as a toxin (i.e., poison). It works by PARALYZING the muscle so that it cannot contract (and create a wrinkle). It does not "relax" the muscle or skin as described in so many commercials. Medically, it was originally used to treat painful muscle spasms and contractions in conditions such as cerebral palsy and its use in those contexts is still considered controversial. Why are women so worried about wrinkles that they are willing to go to such extremes? (Or they are willing to go to the extreme of using Botox but not giving up smoking or tanning.) I'm also a bit disturbed that you are promoting using Botox as a foregone conclusion - as merely a question of "when". Botox is not a good idea at any age!

No, don't do it yet!! Botox freezes your facial muscles and hinders your ability to make expressions. I might just be influenced by the celeb plastic surgery sites I've been perusing, but in most cases, botox can get addicting and you're only going to rely on it more and more over time. Embrace your wrinkles!

Ok, I think this whole Botox thing is being taken WAAYYYY too lightly by society. Botox is a low concentration of botulism (a LETHAL toxin,) which works by paralyzing the muscles around the injection site, thus preventing the muscles from contracting and forming a wrinkle. It has only been approved by the FDA for use on the nasal-labial folds (lines from the nose to the outer mouth). This is not just a "cosmetic" procedure as it is being made out to be. It is a surgical injection that causes paralysis. I work at a dayspa, and one of my clients has PERMANENT EYELID DROOPING from an improperly placed Botox injection. It is irreversible and permanent. And it is VERY easy for a Dr. to inject the toxin incorrectly (all it takes is a millimeter off). It is absolutely absurd for a 20-year-old to get Botox. The 20-year-old needs to just stay out of the sun and take care of her skin! The quick fix is NEVER good for you. What ever happened to taking care of your skin and aging gracefully. I mean, who really wants to walk around looking like a mannequin??

I do not think Botox is a good way to go. You say you are in your late 20's? My gosh! Why would you think of getting Botox done, it is a very harmful chemical. You are probably over-dramatizing your wrinkles. Everyone has some wrinkles, even if they are very small. I think you should work with what you are given, and not try to change your look by artificial means. And try to remember looks aren't everything and no one looks perfect, even the celebritys. Again, my advice is to stay away from the Botox, you're beautiful the way you are.

I debated botox just because I get some pretty severe headaches/migraines, 1/2 of which originate from furrowing my brows, which I seem to do unconsciously. Supposedly it has helped some with getting less headaches but the fact that its a toxin has kept me away. I'd rather find a less drastic solution.

It might be best to try less harsh treatments first, like creams. If your wrinkles aren't really deep and noticable, you shouldn't need it. You're only in your 20's, your skin probably looks great still! Before you make a choice though, make sure you're informed on possible side effects and stuff like that.

As I'm inching away from my 20's, I'm starting to feel the pressure to take greater measures to stay looking young. However, I believe in aging gracefully and wearing your "smile lines" with pride. When you're young, you should be full of life and expressions. I think botox would diminish that.

First of all you're way too young to even consider botox and second of all it might seem like it works but it doesn't last very long. It can also potentially damage your skin. You should look into lotions and cremes that can reduce wrinkles and personally I don't think there is a proper age to get botox I think you should age with grace.

I dont think that you should get botox so early in life. There are many alternative like creams that are sold at any pharmacy or your local market. If you want to help your skin from the inside out, you should consider eating foods that are high in antioxidants. They help increase collagen, elasticity and firmness in aging skin. Tomatoes, Beets, and carrots (and other red and dark orange vegetables) are great foods to consume if you want to prevent wrinkles.

The best time to get Botox, Juvederm, or the like is when you look in the mirror and think that you're unhappy with the way you look, especially if it's affecting your confidence or self esteem. Wrinkles are a pretty natural thing to have as one ages, so no one should be compelled to feel bad about them (no one really wants to look like Joan Rivers, do they?). It's really a personal decision, but I think Botox should be used as a corrective treatment, not a preventative measure. But maybe that's because I don't like the thought of needles in my face...

While Botox seems to be the miracle worker for most people nowadays, I think 20s is WAY too soon to be getting it. That sounds just like those mothers that give their 15 and 16-year-old daughters breast implants. I say- if you're in Hollywood and your job demands that you look like you're 25 when you're really 48, then go for it, but in the real world, come on- Everyone has some form of beauty, even if you have wrinkles. Plus, there are some people that look better with age, so why not wait until at least 45 until trying to make yourself younger? 20s is NOT old and there are plenty of creams and lotions out there for you to do, rather than going for the needle already.

Botox is a poison! I don't think there is ever a right age to inject poison into your face, or any part of your body, for that matter. I think that a woman should be able to proudly wear her wrinkles (big or small), and love the skin you’re in! However, if it is a real concern to you there are actually exercises you can do to help tone your face! Also a properly balanced diet is a great preventative to wrinkles! A little research goes a long way!

As a dermatology nurse, I can tell you that Botox is one of the safest medical procedures available, when admininstered properly by a trained MD. Botox has been used in the face for over 30 years to treat facial spasm in patients with cerebal palsy. It was noted how effective Botox was at smoothing fine lines from dynamic facial muscle movement (movement around the forhead and outer eyes). Our office does very little cosmetic and my MD is SUPER conservative. I would advise anyone interested in Botox to find a reputable (not necessarily the most popular)dermatologist who can give you accurate information re: the risks and benefits of botox and then make your decision. Having said that, it does seem to have greater benefit when the lines arent quite as deep for obvious reasons. However, this doesnt mean start as soon as you find a frown line. More like in your 40s vs waiting until your 70s. But the best way to reduce wrinkles...protect your skin with sunblock and sunglasses everyday!

Botox scares me. That could be because my Aunt is a nurse, so I've heard some crazy stories....but I honestly think that if you treat your skin well, you eat healthy, and you work out (because that really can help) you're skin will age much better than if you always ate junk food, smoked, sat on the couch all day, and never cleaned their face. You know what I mean?

Botox -besides being a dangerous toxin each batch is tested on animals with some fatal results- the batches have to be tested to determine the proper dosage. Innocent animals should not have to pay a high price for vanity.

i think the right age to botox is in your mid-30's if you feel that you need to do it. some people think they need to, others want to age naturally.

you look fine girl! haha...I really hope I age gracefully, but either way I don't think I'll be getting any botox, I hate needles and I hate pain! xD

I think once you start with botox or really anything like it there is no holding back. It's not a once in a lifetime thing for most people and I really dislike the idea of getting botox in the first place - but getting it regularly is even more scary to me. I personally can't imagine ever getting it - too scary!

I just turned 35 and consider Botox my new best friend. I started getting it about a year and a half ago for what I call my "mean wrinkle." It's a relatively deep crevice between my eyes that just plain makes me look mean! Somehow, after about 10 minutes and a few pokes with a needle, Botox completely smooths out my forehead and makes me look five years younger and a whole lot nicer!

I am 28 and recently had botox for the first time on my forehead. Just a small amount to get rid of a deep line I've had forming since 16. Now I'm petrified of needles, but it was completely non-painful and took about 5 days before I saw the effects. It's been 5 months now and it's just wearing off. The biggest reason I'm going back is that I have not had a migraine headache in that entire time. I used to have one every 1-2 weeks and was constantly in pain and missing work. It's amazing! Plus no more heavy duty pain killers. People always say to wait until you have big, deep lines to start- Botox isn't a filler, it's a preventative. If you've already got deep lines, it's only going to stop them from getting worse. Plus if you hate it, it'll be gone in 4-5 months anyway.

Botox in your 20s. Not yet! In my 20s, I read two sources that recommended using gummed labels on the face (while at home!) to both smooth/stretch out areas that were beginning to wrinkle, and to TRAIN YOU OUT OF SMOOSHING UP YOUR FACE in ways that create wrinkles. Amazingly enough, it worked. No, it won't help with smile lines, but it will work for those funny things we do with raised eyebrows (leading to forehead wrinkles) and the groove between the eyebrows. I can't find those lick and stick labels any more, but regular tape works almost as well. I'm in my mid 50s now, and the thing that shows my age is the effect of gravity, not virtually non-existant wrinkles. Unless I opt to stand on my head for the rest of my life, there is nothing much in the "minimally invasive" category that can help with that, so I've had some minor cosmetic surgery done. In my 20s and 30s, I NEVER thought that I'd go that route, but never say never ... The skin on my face is still remarkably firm and elastic. I attribute this to a combination of factors: 1) Having had oily skin when I was young, but starting with water based firming products in my 30s. 2) At home micro dermabrasion. 3) Use of night time products that also contribute to rapid turn-over of skin cells. 4) LOADS of sun block. 5) Cardio exercise, which increases blood flow to the skin. If I knew then what I know now, I'd pay as much attention to protecting the skin on my chest, arms, and hands as I lavished on my face. No matter how good your face looks, these areas will out your age, if not protected. Age happens. One thing that we all need to learn is to stop aspiring to look like we did when we perceived that we were at our very best. At 20-something, you're not supposed to look like a teen any more. At 50-something, despite wearing a size 6, I'm no longer a candidate for wearing mini skirts or bikinis. Eh. And so it goes. (BTW, in hindsight, I think that I looked my best when I was in my 30s. At that time of life, there is still "the glow", but there is also a lovely "patina" and a grace that we don't have when we're very young.)

My husband had facial spasms and had to have botox injections to stop the spasms. This was only a temporary fix as the spasms would come back more frequently each time he had the injections and the neurolgist told him that eventually, this wouldn't help anymore. It stands to reason with me that if the injections would no longer help him that eventually, these ladies that are getting the injections to get rid of wrinkles are going to discover that they have to get them more frequently and eventually, they won't work at all leaving them with rude awakening one day.

I love Botox! You look relax and younger. I'm 52 and I need it. My dermatologist does a great job. You need to find a DOCTOR with the American Board certificate. That's very important. If you wait until you have deep wrinkles, you'll need something else. :)

Everyone should like the way they look and feel good about themselves. And if botox does that for you, go for it! So the right time is totally up to you.

Honestly, I'm waay too young to think about botox, but I have always been a firm believer in the saying " If your not happy with the way you look, then go for surgery and/or cosmetic procedures." I think if you are truly ready for some change then go ahead. After all, its your body and your face and your life so go with what you think.

I think that botox is overrated...I dont think its needed, you will age the way you are supposed to age and that is whats so beautiful about us humans!

A a 40 year old woman, I, too, once thought,"Grow old gracefully!" However, I realized that it's easy to say that when your skin is smooth, gorgeous, wrinkle free! After my husband died suddenly, I couldn't stop crying, couldn't stop worrying about our 6 year old child. I developed those horrible vertical lines between my eyes. Everytime I looked in the mirror, I was reminded of the pain of my lose. Botox was the answer for me~ I once again saw the girl my husband loved, more importantly~ saw the girl that I loved, the girl I was before tragedy struck. After many discussions with a qualified doctor, I learned that if you use Botox BEFORE you get wrinkles, the wrinkles will never develop at all, as wrinkles form after making the same expressions over time. Botox freezes the muscles, so wrinkles never have the chance to even develop.I agree that some lines add beautiful character to ones face; there's nothing better than a face that 'shows' that it has laughed so much over the years! However, when wrinkles show your sadness or pain, there's no need to have them there. Everyone needs to decide what is best for them. For me, having those vertical lines disappear made me LOOK happy again. In turn, real happiness slowly followed. With that being said, please~if you choose to use Botox, research your doctor before using him/her. You will absolutely LOVE the results!

Its all about wrinkle prevention. By the time your 50, you'll be resorting to fillers, which is WAY more expensive. Botox simply keeps you from forming wrinkles, it doesn't fill them in. And I don't think that Botox is all "that" expensive... we're talking the price of a jacket or an outfit. I do agree about the toxins comment, but I still get my quarterly shots regardless - I just try to make up for it by eating right and drinking tons of water. ~ bottom line: it does the job!

I thing all of the comments have proven that Botox is a personal choice. Those that use it swear by it and really do see a difference. Now whether that difference is a conditioned response or an actually provable fact, those who choose to use Botox are happy with it. However, I think the real question is when did it become acceptable for young women (myself included - under 30 here) start feeling pleasure to look like we are in our late teens until we are 40? If it is going to make you feel more confident and it is something you are really interested in, you have done the research and you are ready to spend the money, then go for it. If you are trying it because you feel that one line on your face is unacceptable then you really need to take a look at your own self image and decide what you and only you are unhappy with about yourself and decide if you really need to go that far. It isn’t like lipstick or a new face scrub, people do have adverse reactions so tread with care.

Wow thats interesting, to me eating healthy and daily facial hygiene is just enough. I would definatly wait until i absolutly needed botox instead of getting it.

Oh my gosh, I think botox is crazy and unhealthy. I mean, they inject chemicals into your face!! Maybe if they invent an alternative with more natural ingredients I might try it. I think the ripe age is when you're in your forties.
