Perfume

Thursday, September 10, 2009

I have this "friend" who will soon be working closely with someone who wears so much perfume that she is Googling "fashionable gas-mask gear" and stocking up on Ibuprofen for headaches. Seriously, do you want to be "that girl?" Of course you don't! Clues That You May Be Wearing Too Much Perfume: *People around you regularly have tears in their eyes. *You are never given perfume as a gift; you always buy it yourself *The girls at the perfume counter know you by name *When you are walking down the hallway at your workplace and come upon a co-worker, they give you a 10-foot berth or suddenly "forget something," turning around and rushing in the other direction. *When you travel in an airplane, everyone around you seems angry.** *When you enter a room, people start coughing or leave suddenly. *No one (except creepy guys in bars, trying to get laid) ever says, "I love your perfume. What is it?" *You re-apply perfume during the work day. (If you smell that bad, see your doctor!) *You are still wearing Opium perfume. [Seriously, any amount of Opium is too much. Blecccch! And it was created in 1977-That should be hint enough.] If you aren't sure, ask an honest friend (who doesn't wear perfume.) For great tips on how to apply perfume without instilling hatred in others, click here. (Please ignore Tip #6) Did I miss anything? Got a perfume complaint or solution for my "friend?" Do tell! **Please, please, please, for allergy sufferers everywhere, PLEASE DO NOT APPLY PERFUME WHILE A PASSENGER ON AN AIRPLANE!! It's not the best practice!

Wow, I know some people like that. I usually just tell them that they are wearing too much. I do that with guys and thier cologne too. Because I am a mom, I usually just wear light fruity scents, and I do one spritz at most, so I don't offend the olfactory glands of others. If you want to smell pretty, you don't need the strongest perfume on the market. A nice light musk works just fine. A musk is wonderful because they smell different on everyone, and when used in a normal amount is quite lovely. You don't need to carry perfume in your purse, or put it on at work. Once in the morning is seriously enough. Just because you can't smell it, doesn't mean that everyone else in the room can't.

My Mother and I have Severe Chemical Sensitivities and are forced to live in an isolated world because of a constant barrage of chemical exposures when we leave our home. One of the biggest culprits is perfume/colongue (which causes angioedema and anaphylactic shock); evey building has an array of scents and its overwhelming at times just to walk in the door. We use MCS masks from ICanBreathe.com and it helps, but it is not a cure-all. Essential oils are a better alternative as it is an organic fragrance, but please be aware that some people are highly allergic even to these. People with MCS are comapred to canaries in the coalmines; when the cannaries stop singing the miners know it's time to leaave; the gases escaping the mine kill the canaries first. Us human canaries have stopped singing, but the world hasn't noticed. All those of you out there who love to leave a scented trail, please be considerate of others and avoid using fragrance in public (laundry soap and body soap should be enough)- those with MCS and respiratory problems would greatly appreciate having an environment we can breathe in. Thanks for listening.

I can not stand when girls wear too much perfume! I am only 13 and i am in 8th grade so when girls are loaded with perfume i think it is absolutley unecessary! I mean i wear perfume everyday i LOVE smelling nice and fresh but I dont overdue it and i certainly switch my perfume if a friend tells me she doesnt like it because i dont want other people to suffer just so that i can wear one perfume when i have like 20 others!
