Sunday, November 29, 2009 The holidays are coming up fast, it’s hard to believe it’s almost the end of 2009. I was talking to some friends the other day and we were sharing our Christmas traditions with each other and I thought it would make a great conversation here. I love to hear what other people do each year for the holidays. I would like to share with you part of our Christmas tradition. We used to run around A LOT when we first had kids on Christmas Eve, it got to be way too much for us and the kids so a few years ago we started doing our own thing on Christmas Eve and we make plans with our extended families on other days during Christmas break. Each year on Christmas Eve my husband, the kids and I get dressed up and go out to dinner just the 6 of us. We have a very large extended family and usually dinners out are reserved for large family gatherings so it is nice to just spend time together alone. After dinner we head to church services. There are several neighborhoods close to where we live that have fantastic light displays in their yards. They actually hire people to put up their lights for them! We drive around after church and see the lights, we have our favorite houses we see every year, the kids really enjoy seeing the houses year after year. Christmas Morning I am very fortunate to live on the same street as my parents, my mother in law, and my brother and his family. We have been doing the same thing on Christmas morning for about 9 years or so now. The kids wake up (way to early I might add) and they are allowed to look in their stockings before they wake up mom and dad. This activity allows us about 10 extra minutes to sleep lol. Once they wake us up we all go into the living room and see what Santa has put under the tree. They play for a bit with their new treasures and then we head across the street to my mom and dad’s house in our Christmas PJ’s to have a fantastic breakfast made by my dad. He makes the best Jiffy Corn Cake pancakes in the world! After breakfast we exchange presents with my parents and my brother’s family. The kids goof around, share each other’s new stuff and hang out for a while. When we are finished at my parent’s house we go back across the street to my mother in law’s house and exchange presents with her and my brother in law. The kids play again, pig out on candy in the candy dishes and have a great time. Once we are done making our rounds we head home throw all the bags in the living room and take a nap! Later that evening we all get together again at someone’s house and have a nice relaxing Christmas dinner together (still in our PJ’s, as far as I’m concerned it’s the best way to spend the day).
