Tuesday, December 22, 2009 I am clearly late to the hot rollers party. I know most girls experiment with them in middle school and high school as many of my friends did. I had wavy hair as a kid that was cut into the worst shag haircut ever, so hot rollers were not for me. As a matter of fact, I had never used rollers of any kind until this year. My 16 year-old daughter is much more adept at all things beauty than I am. She taught me how to use a flat iron, and then she bought hot rollers. I was fascinated watching her do her own her and practice on her friends. One day my hair was particularly flat and I needed a lift. I have succumbed to the Keratin Straightening Treatment which has changed my life cutting my blow drying time in half, but after day two, my hair is flat as board. My daughter wasn’t home, so I borrowed her rollers and tried it myself. It was love at first curl. My hair went from flat to bouncy in 15 minutes and I was ecstatic. We have the Conair Ion Shine which cost about $29.99. I love these rollers and have not given them back since I borrowed them. It allows me to get an extra day or two out of my blow dries and I can change up the looks easily from straight and bouncy to big, volume sexy. Any tricks to getting your hair super smooth inside the rollers, or getting the clips in just right? Pamela Weinberg is co-author of City Baby, the best selling NYC parenting guidebook.
