Plastic Surgery

Friday, January 22, 2010

So occasionally I think all women fall victim of wanting improvements to their looks, but it’s only a few that actually go to the extremes of surgery to achieve it. The latest People magazine highlights The Hills star Heidi Montag on her recent 10 surgical adjustments that she had from breast augmentation to chin reduction.   See the before and after pictured left.  At the ripe age of only 23, do you think she is too young for plastic surgery?

I think she looked better before the surgery. She's way too young to have had all of those things done to her.

23 is too young to have all those surgeries! I'm all for plastic surgery but in moderation. Heidi doesn't even look like her old self anymore. I just wonder what she will say to her future children when they want to know whose nose/chin they got and it happens to be mommy's before nose?

Sounds like she definitely has the wrong people in her ear all the time telling her all the wrong things. First of all having multiple surgeries is very risky (remember Kanye west's mom?) And also she claims she's doing it for her career but having a DDD cup size does not guarantee selling records she just doesn't have the right people around her to give her guidance.

I think that at 23 her body is still developing and she should've waited a while longer before doing 10 surgeries in 1 day. My concern is what message is she sending to the girls that watch this show? We already live in a soceity where skinny is better but now they will have to deal with having to look like Barbie even more thanks to the era of plastic surgery and the young ladies who are too anxious to wait and see what life will bring to their body.

I won't say that she was too young for plastic surgery, but I would say that our faces and bodies change quite a bit in our 20's and 30's, so it might have benefited her to wait a while. I'm in my late 30's and recently had a cosmetic procedure to improve something that had bothered me for some time, and I'm glad I waited until now.

YES!! I think anyone is too young for plastic surgery. She was beautiful before the surgery. It's sad to me that people are so worried about their looks these days. It's one thing to want to dress up and look nice, it's another to be so unhappy with yourself that you want to be someone else. It just proves to me how superficial Hollywood really is. Be happy with yourself, love yourself, and it will show in your attitude and personality. Allow people to love you for who you are, not what you look like.

This is so sad and such a sad commentary on our times. She was so pretty to begin with and so young. Take what God gives you and work with it. She looks so much harsher now..much older than her years. Hopefully she will have no physical (internal) illnesses, etc to overcome due to these surgeries.

I think plastic surgery is a personal choice. But, at 23, to have had so many is ridiculous. She has completely changed her looks. She has a real "Barbie Complex". Guess what? She'll never look perfect, but will always try to achieve "the look" that won't satisfy her. Concentrate on inner beauty, Heidi!

I don't think there should be a specified age that makes plastic surgery acceptable. I realize that some people have low self esteem and when they compare themselves to the other freaks on that show it can give them a warped view of their bodies. But putting a bunch of silicon in your body and cutting off your chin doesn't seem like the healthiest way to get self-esteem.

I think she's too young to have had so many surgeries at 23. I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting to improve a little but she has completely changed who she was. Surgery should improve your looks by giving you a slight change, not rearrange your entire face. What Heidi did was very extreme. Personally, I wouldn't give up my identity to fit in with everyone else.

I am not against plastic surgery. It is the Why behind getting the plastic surgery that concerns me. Heidi was beautiful before. She somehow thinks she needs a lot of improvement on the outside. I think it could be something on the inside that needs help to make her feel ok about herself. It is sad because, until that is addressed all the surgery in the world will never make her happy.

Women want to because they want to feel beautiful. It is hard to live in the limelight and have this expectation to be perfect to measure up to. If she wants to get plastic surgery, it is her decision and hers alone and she should not be scrutinized for it, but I don't think she needs it.

It's no wonder she kept her imminent surgery from her family (as she says in the "People" article). Now, I'm all for people doing whatever they want, but it is a little scary that someone would go under the knife (for 10 procedures!) because she was made fun of. I would love every woman to feel better about herself, but what message does it send that in order to be worthy we need to be "perfect." There is no such thing! And sadly, now Heidi, who was distinctive looking before (if vapid) looks like a cookie cutter person. What's with so many women looking like they have Gabor noses now?

Perhaps Heidi had a poor self-image of herself and it made her feel better to change herself, but in the long run, she may go through many more cosmetic surgeries just because she's not "satisfied". That's what Michael Jackson did and look how freakish his looks ended up being. I'd say take a long hard look before changing one's looks through cosmetic surgery. It could become a disaster.

She was far prettier before. I haven't read anyone else's comments, so I'm not using anyone else's opinions here. She looked like a young Meg Ryan with incredible natural beauty. Now, she looks like a skull with skin stretched over it. I also know that not all plastic surgery is permanent: breasts must be replaced every 10 years or so, collagen fades and inserts shift. Does she think that her wealth and success will last forever so that she will continue these expensive procedures? I'm afraid for this woman's state of mind. She needed an inner makeover. I'm fond of the stories of classic movies and all of the gorgeous successful women who destroyed their lives. I think of their fans and the people who truly loved them and what they could have done to intervene... God bless her and I hope that I'm completely wrong.

Wanting something improved and completely changing the way you look are two very different things. After her first surgery she looked a little past improved, now she doesn't even look like the same person. It's easier to judge her but hard to honestly say you wouldn't change SOMETHING with the opportunity and money available. The whole subject balances on a very thin, thin line.

She now looks older and I don't believe that is for the good. Her rounder face was very cute and youthful and looked the way a 23 year old should!

She is too young but throw out the age. As many young girls that have image issues these days she is setting a really bad example. She is always talking about her chrstianity yet she changes her God given beauty because she feels what he bleesed her with was not good enough. She is a fake. She delivers an improper message on so many levels religous and image are the two that come to mind. Anyone who is a fan of hers should just call themselevs a fan of anything fake.

i think her reasons for wanting the surgery don't have to do with her age and actually its better for her to get it while she is young so that she has a good chance of healthy recovery. My issue is with why she wanted to get it in the first place. she was a very pretty girl before all of this. I don't know why she wanted to change her appearance so much but it must be an insecurity issue of some kind for her to feel like she has to go through such drastic measure to feel and look prettier. She should have fixed herself on the inside instead of the outside.

Heidi was very beautiful before all of this, and I thought her chin was cute and gave her personality! I feel like she just looks like some picture now.. our differences make us unique! :)

Aging gracefully is part of life and at 57 years old I think I have done just that.

I personally think most people who get plastic surgery didn't need it in the first place. Heidi was a beautiful girl before her surgery and is now but I don't think the surgery was necessary. I find that surgery is really only necessary if there is medical reason for it. And in some cases for people who have suffered damage to their body or face.

I find this very sad. She now looks older, plastic and completely unrecognizable. I believe in accepting yourself as you are and growing old gracefully (non-evasive, natural help ie: makeup, general skin care, natural vitamins, etc. are acceptable.) I feel that society (especially the US) is moving further and further in the wrong direction pertaining to physical beauty. True beauty is in the individuality of each person but more and more people are choosing to erase that individuality instead...trying to be something they are not.

It's unfortunate that she feels the need to adjust her perfectly naturally beautiful look into something that looks so plastic. Especially since according to what she says on The Hills, she wants to have a baby. Why get all of the surgeries before having children, why not wait until she gets somewhat of a baby fat belly, or her boobs start to sag a little. But to each is own I guess, I just wish it weren't spotlighted so much, I think it gives younger people more of a justification to plastic their young healthy bodies.

Personally, I don't want to judge her for her choices...but at the same time, it is something I would never do to myself or ask anyone else, especially people I care about to do. I agree with a lot of what people have said, Heidi was perfectly pretty before all of her surgery. She looked young, fresh, most importantly (so I think) unique. Now, she simply looks like every other celebrity. The same chin, the same nose... But like I said, I don't want to judge her, she's free to do what she likes with the money she has. But it's a choice she might come to regret someday.

I DO BELIEVE THAT SHE HAD SO MUCH PLASTIC SURGERY DONE WAY TO YOUNG! HER BODY IS NOT EVEN DONE GROWING INTO ITSELF, SHE HAD ALL THAT WORK DOWN TO LOOK GOOD NOW BUT WHATS SHE GONNA DO IN 10 OR 15 YEARS? GET ANOTHER WHOLE BODY JOB, I DONT THINK SHE THOUGHT EVERYTHING THROUGH. I THINK SHE KNEW SHE HAD THE MONEY AND DIDNT THINK TWICE ABOUT WHAT SHE WANTED TO DO WITH IT. I FEEL BADLY FOR ALL THOSE YOUNG GIRLS WHO LOOK UP TO HER AS A ROLE MODEL, I REALLY DO.

It is her body and she can do whatever she wants with it, but in my opinion plastic surgery isn't something good. She looked better in her natural form. Something about modifying your body because it doesn't look to some people's "high standards" doesn't seem right. What happened to not caring what people think about you? God made you look the way you do for a reason, and people want to go and change that. If the world wasn't so obsessed with the way everyone looks, this wouldn't be a problem.

She is so utterly devoid of any self worth, emotional strength and common sense about what it is to be a complete human, that she's done what she thinks will fill the black hole of where her self esteem should be. No one taught her the value of loving who you are, the way you are or that beauty comes from within and from good deeds done. She is the perfect example of a "lost child". Because of the reality show, she became a spectacle, a "train wreck" but now she and her husband have turned themselves into "Sideshow Freaks". They claim to be these devout, scripture spouting christians and yet they do things that are so "un-christian-like", I'm not a christian, but I am a spiritual human being. I believe the body is a temple, I believe that baring your flesh for money and publicity to keep yourself famous because you lack any sign of talent, worthy of the attention and fame that legitimately talented people have earned, SCREAMS volumes about how sad, unprepared and unhappy these two people are. He may not be doing what she's done but he supports her, encourages her and profits from her agenda of joint exploitation of their lives and her body. She put herself in debt with these surgeries but "has some stuff in the works" to make more money. The "piranhas" of the business will "pick her bones clean" to make as much money off of her ignorance as they can until she implodes. And the whole world will watch unblinkingly because we are a society that thrives on schadenfreude. As long as we keep the cameras trained on the 2 of them, the more the "trained monkeys" will perform. That pretty young girl who looked like her family and once carried it's physical history on her face and body is now a sad, artificial, unhappy example of the "search for fame" gone horribly wrong. I'd say I feel sorry for her, for them but in actuality...I pity them. I feel sorry for the people in Haiti, for the families of the soldiers we've lost in the war. And ya know what, I wonder how much those two subjects have crossed his or her mind and how deeply it's impacted their strange little lives? I'd love to get their take on it, wouldn't you? Namaste

Of couse she is too young to have that much plastic surgery. I personally feel that she has self image issues. And this will not be the end. I can understand if she did not like her nose and wanted to change it, fine. Most women have something about themselves they don't like but to change so much of yourself that you are almost reconizable suggest you did not like what you saw in the mirror at all.

I'm not even sure that it's a question of age here. It's unfortunate that any woman would feel the need to "improve" her looks by such drastic measures. At some level, it is a reflection of the way our society defines beauty: unnaturally sculpted! At another level, it is truly sad that Heidi has such low self-esteem that she feels the answer is cosmetic surgery. My fear is that young girls who thought Heidi was gorgeous prior to surgery will start to judge themselves accordingly. This cannot be healthy for our daughters, sisters and best friends. IMO, Heidi could use her "notoriety" to promote strength and beauty by letting her actions speak for her generosity and wealth of spirit shine through. Positive action always shines and makes a person beautiful.

I believe that Heidi Montag has fully given in to the superficial ways of Hollywood, partially because she is too young and/or lacking the maturity level to realize that women and girls don't need plastic surgery to be beautiful. In the before picture she is a young and beautiful Hollywood hopeful, and in the after she looks as if she's aged to a forty-something woman who turns to plastic surgery to keep her youthful look. By trying to be something she's not, she's ruined the best years of her life (as far as her looks are concerned).

I think that Heidi has definitely overdone her plastic surgery, especially at her age. There shouldn't be any reason why she NEEDED those operations. I myself don't ever plan or wish on getting work done but am very understanding of individuals who may have been in extreme accidents where such operations may be life changing emotionally. Heidi on the other hand, didn't have prior issues with her physical appearance. She may not have been satisfied with her appearance but let's face it, what woman isn't? As women, there is always something we'd like to change but you don't see us all running to get plastic surgery. In Heidi's case, I believe her only reason to all the changes are strictly for publicity for fame.

Although, it was her decision to do this to herself, some blame should go out to the greedy plastic surgeons who proceed with unneeded plastic surgery. Seriously, people should go through psychological analysis before going through this kind of extreme change. Also, her plastic surgeon deserves to be scrutinized for endangering his patient's life. Seriously, 10 surgeries at once is too much on the body...

She is way too young for plastic surgery in my opinion. To get that many operations and spend that much money she must have had some serious self-confidence issues. Just think all of the organizations, people, and countries that severely need money. She could have donated all that wasted money to charity to save a life and make a difference, instead she selfishly threw away her money and beauty.
