Want to Recover From Crying Eyes?

Friday, February 12, 2010

Have you ever had a cry fest and now your eyes are suffering? No worries combat those puffy eyes with a few little pick me up tricks!
-To treat puffy eyes take an ibuprofen (Advil) right away as it reduces swelling and it will help with any headache that you probably got from all the sobbing.  You can also try crushing an Advil in some milk and then soak cucumbers in it. Take the cold cucumbers and then apply them to your eyes for about 5 minutes.
-To treat redness around the nose and mouth try a drop of Visine and rub in, this will help to constrict the blood vessels.
-To disguise the discoloration around the eye, use a light concealer and blend in. You can also apply a pearl eyeliner in the inner corner of the eye to help make them look more awakened.
-To help your eyes from looking droopy, apply mascara on the bottom lashes and curl your top lashes, avoid putting dark mascara on your top lashes, opt for a clear or a light brown to make your eyes look natural and not to dramatic as this can draw too much attention to them
-To minimize red lips apply a nude lipstick and apply gloss over or try applying a little concealer to your lips prior to lip color
Here’s a couple tips from our e.l.f. fans:
-belles_boutique @askelf- Visine eye drops are a must followed by tea bags soaked in ice water for 5 mins on each eye to reduce puffiness of the eye area
-look up! look up if you feel like you might cry... it works, not sure why or how, but it does. If it happens and you end up crying... i always take a cool wet paper towel (@work) or a real hand towel (@home) and apply it to take out the heat and redness and then use some quick red reducing eye drops.-Shannon K

And don’t forget it’s ok to grab some tissues and shed a tear but try to then hug it out and smile! What do you do to combat against crying eyes?  :)

Great tips! I have a problem with the redness around my lips and nose so I will try the nude lipstick and the visine tricks. Thanks! I try not to cry watching movies but I can't help it. My husband says "it's just a movie". agghh MEN! LOL

I put two spoons in the freezer for a few hours and then put over my closed eyes...totally from the old days, but it works wonders!

This is a great trick, not only for crying eyes but for tired eyes as well... I am pregnant and sleep at night is almost nonexistent anymore... My eyes are always puffy and tired-looking. This is works well for me and helps me look awake when I have no choice when it comes to sleep! Thank you!

Good idea! I hate how it's so obvious when my eyes become puffy and my lashes are really wet. Looks like I'll be picking up some Visine the next time I hit the drugstore! :)

Every time I visit my therapist I spend at least 75% of our time in tears, which needless to say makes me a little hesitant to walk back out into the waiting room past all her other clients. I've started skipping on the mascara and even powder, and have started carrying a small hand towel, that way I can slip to the rest room press a little cold water into my face, use some tinted moisturizer to blend out the tear streaks. I don't know if drinking water does anything drastic for my appearnce but it makes me feel a whole bunch better to have a bottle or two after an intense crying session

When my eyes are puffy or irritated (usually from false eyelash glue) I soak two chamomile teabags in hot water then place them in the fridge to cool. I lie down for 10 minutes with them on my eyes and- voila! No more redness or puffiness.

I put two spoons in the freezer and put them on my eyes for swelling, and for the redness I just splash cool water on my face. My redness normally doesn't last over night.

I like to splash my face with cold water until my nose clears then i take two spoons (just out of the drawer bc they are somewhat cold already) and i place them on my under eyes to make the puffyness go down.

Hey! Thanks so much for the tips! I never thought to only apply mascara to my bottom lashes. Now I'll have to go find a great nude ELF lipstick to carry around with me!

I soak a cotton pad in ice water, squeeze out excess water and apply it to my eye lids for five to ten minutes to reduce the puffiness. I find that it even helps to apply these to my cheeks to reduce the appearance of pores.

This was a really helpful blog! I had puffy red eyes and the advil really helped in relieving the swelling. This is an amazing post and I really recommend it to all the cry babies, such as myself, out there!!

I've never tried the mascara and concealer tip. I sometimes use ibuprofen. Hm, I also want to try the nude lips one day.

I hate it when I just can't stop tearing up and my eyes get all puffy and red. I mostly use some concealer under my eyes, and maybe a little around my nose. I've never tried using a white eyeliner, but it sounds like a great trick that I'll start using!

What's worked for me was Studio's concealer and highlighter duo. I would use the concealer part first under where my bags would be then I apply a few dots of the highlighter on top and my eye area is brighter looking and I look much less sad or tired.

a good puffy eye cure is a cold coca cola. Warp it in a face cloth and let it sit on your eyes for ten min. no 1 way for perf. post cry eye.

I take a washcloth and soak it in warm water (not too warm so it doesn't hurt) and place it on my eyes while closed. I leave it on for 30 seconds then let my eyes relax, then repeat a few times.
