Shoulder Pads

Friday, March 05, 2010

Flashback to the 80’s with the big shoulder pads….well guess what you don’t have to because they are back! This trend has been spotted on many different celebs; Kim Kardashian especially is a big fan. I’ve seen this fashion trend gracing the retail shelves in Forever 21 and bebe most recently. Question is…are you a fan of the shoulder pad? Will you be sporting this trend?

I'm not a huge fan of the shoulder pads. I already have pretty broad shoulders, I don't want to look like I'm going to play football. I guess on the right body type it'll look nice but unfortunately, it's not suitable for me.

absolutely not. i work in a costume shop and we still make fun of the gross shoulder pads in our stock room that we pull out for 80s shows. it's not a good look. i can't believe it ever caught on in the first place, and i hope it never comes back.

Big shoulder pads are making a comeback? It so has not been long enough. 40's, 80's, should be 20's next. I will not do them again. The only thing they were good for was keeping my purse on my shoulder. I am into handbags and clutches now so they are no longer needed.

It depends on the size. I like a little bit of a strong shoulder, but I think Kim's outfit is a bit over the top! Lady Ga Ga much?!

My shoulders and upper body are broad enough, thank you very much! I'll stick with a more natural silhouette.

I can't get on board with the shoulder pads. I didn't like them in the 80's either. I suppose it's because my shoulders are broad enough. I don't need pads making them look bigger. Some trends are better left in the decade they came from.

I think anything can look good on Kim Kardashian. On the average person, shoulder pads would not look good. They are not fashionable and should go back to the 80's. I am not a fan and will definitely not be sporting them.

Yes, I would wear shoulder pads again, but only small, natural-looking ones. I have small shoulders and am larger on bottom, so they help even me out.I think they're great! But NOT the huge ones.

I hated shoulder pads back then and I would absolutely not wear them now. I always remove them from any outfit I purchase. UGH!

I'm so sorry, but the shoulder pads are a NO GO for me! As a busty girl, the addition of shoulder pads diminish feminity and makes me look like a line backer. I prefer the soft curves of a cola bottle instead

Not really a fan of the shoulder pad. Most likely NOT going to be sporting it. But it does look kinda cool on Kim.

I am not a fan of the shoulder pad and would not wear it now. I think Kim looks like an alien in that photo. The only trend I like from the 80s are leg warmers.

I actually love the strong shoulder look that's coming back now. If you study these outfits carefully, you'll see that it's not just plain jane shoulder pads anymore. It's a little more feminine, the emphasis given to the shoulderline. Shawls that are poufy, tailored colorblocking, oversized piping, textured shoulders, lace and caged shoulders -- they still look delicate without being too monstrous.

I think this look is good for celebrities because they have a reason to go out and dress- Different. It looks advanced in the fashion industry, yet (like you said) still has the eighty's zing to it. I personally- don't have a reason to sport this and probably wont.

Yes, I was a fan of shoulder fans in the 80's of course. Now, gosh no! Kim Kardashian looks like she should star on Star Trek, The Future Generation or just fly away with her new wings!

I will not be one of many who will be sporting this trend bc my mom had blessed me with very broad shoulders, swimmers shoulders. My shoulders are far to prominent for me to need to add any extra boldness to my shoulders. But I have seen shoulder pads around for some time now popping up in all different styles of shirts & dresses.

I love the shoulder pad look. I definitely will be wearing them. Most of us have hips that could use a little "balancing" anyway, and as long as the shoulder pads aren't too exdaggerated I think they look sharp.

I'm not a fan of shoulder pads, but I have becoming of a fan of the modernized puffy sleeve/shoulder. Like Kim's picture up there, I have a dress that has pointy shoulders (not as dramatic as hers) with an edgy-puffy detail tot he sleeve. They don't have shoulder pads in them though. Shoulder pads should only be used if the person has small shoulders, the pads strengthen the look. I have strong shoulder, any padding would make me look HUGE!
