Christian Louboutin Barbie

Thursday, March 18, 2010

I have to admit I was never into Barbie’s when I was little, I was more interested in exploring, painting and playing outside. But there is one Barbie that most recently caught my eye (perhaps because of the coveted red soled shoes) is the limited edition Parisian Barbie by Christian Louboutin. This collector edition Barbie debuted on March 3rd for $150 at Net A-Porter and The luxury shoes retailing around $600 may be expensive for you but for your Barbie the $150 price tag may be a deal. What do you think of this new Barbie, rad or ridiculous?

I think that it's fab. I had to stop myself from collecting them years ago though because it could get very pricey.

That price is ridiculous. You can get a Barbie for cheaper than $15 at the store! Designer Barbies. I'm not buying that for my child!!

if you have the money it's okay. but not quite the pricetag for the typical child.

I agree with the other commentators that 150 is a ridiculous price to pay for a doll, but then again, collectors don't spend big bucks on items for the purpose of using them. It'd be nice for those with a passion for collecting Barbies, I guess.

I adore CL shoes - I'll likely never be able to afford a pair, but Im ok with that. A CL Barbie.... even if I could afford it, I'd be hesitant to buy one for my daughter (two since I have twins), not because they arent Barbie kind of kids but the extravagance goes against the grain of what Im trying to teach them. Of course Mattel had no clue Haiti or Chile would be visited upon by tremendous disasters which have made many reexamine their attachment to material wealth, priorities and values in the face of such suffering, so I cant chide them for their for profit glamor mongering. That having been said, if they announced that they'd be handing over a goodly portion (more than the typical 1% of profits) to the charity best suited to helping those people, I think their karmic profit margin would sky rocket... just saying.

I think for serious collectors the answer is no. I am not a Barbie colletor nor was I into Barbie as a child but I am and was, even as a child, a cosmetic lover. If I loved something in cosmetics that I knew I had to have I worked for it. So rad or ridiculous? Neither. I know when my ELF products come in the mail I am elated. Just watching the tracking gets me excited. So it's all worth it in the end as it makes me happy. It makes me a better person just knowing all the possibilites of looking beautiful. I can't wait to try on the products. I imagine it's the same for Barbie collectors in knowing they have something beautiful they love and can display for others to see.

I liked Barbie as a young girl but this speaks to the rich and spoiled indeed. It's a tad ridiculous.

It's cute but come on! Little girls would not appreciate the allure of Loboutin's! I think it is ridiculous for little girls who would want to play with the Barbie, but maybe for a serious Barbie collector or a massive older fan of the brand the price would be fine...I wouldn't buy it though! :)

I think it's adorable! It's something I could see maybe Nieman's putting on display near the Louboutin's... Definitely not a toy!

I wouldn't spend $600 on shoes or $150 on a Barbie! I'ld rather spend $100 on shoes and the remaining $50 on e.l.f and make sure I look cuter than Barbie :)

Im not a fan of Barbie- more scared of them than ever. However, I am inspired by their looks and fashions. I have to say- The boots are RIDICOULSLY RAD. i love fringe- but pink and me- do not get along.

I remember the first barbie i got was a collector's item so instead of me playing with it, my mom kept it in the package and put it on the top shelf of my closet. it was both a sad moment and happy as i got a regular one to play with after. wow rambling on but.. i doubt i would by this barbie

First off let me state, this doll is NOT for children. Dolls of this kind are usually labeled "for collectors 14 years and up". This particular one is number 2 in a series of 3. The first one came out in February. I am a Barbie collector (have been for 22 years now, still have dolls I had as a child). It can be a "costly" hobby, like most things that people can collect. You learn to pick and choose. This doll is one of many designer dolls Mattel has done. Vera Wang, Donna Karan, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, etc., you name it and most likely there has been a doll by that designer. These dolls are rather unique in that there is a "story" behind each one and each one comes with 4 pairs of Barbie size Louboutin shoes.
