My town has a Habitat For Humanity ReStore that sells scrap lumber, salvaged fixtures and other building materials. I'm considering volunteering my time to work there as a cashier.

I love the idea of this organization. I think, a lot of the times, the homeless are forgotten. There are so many preconceived notions about the homeless, that we forget that, deep down, we are all the same. One of the greatest experiences I've had was serving at a soup kitchen downtown. I can honestly say that on that day, the homeless people helped me and taught me more than I helped them.

Over the years, I have donated my time volunteering to several organizations to help people that span from just being children to those with special needs or handicapps. I have never, however, spent time helping the homeless..although I did have intentions of sometime getting around to it. This organization was really a motivation to get a move on! What a special message! Many people have proconcieved notions that the homeless made themselves that way, but do not bother to think of how they would feel if they were put in the same position and could not help it. Homeless people and those with HIV/AIDS are people too. They deserve to be treated with respect and compassion just as much as anyone else. Remember, it's not material assets that make a person.

I like to volunteer at my local library. They are always looking for help and its a lot of fun to see the faces of the kids that visit.

I donate clutter! Clothing to those who need it, old games/craft items/etc to preschools, etc. If I don't need it, surely someone else does!

Our neighborhood organizes community vegetable gardens. There are several who are master gardeners who donate their time and expertise in teaching, others donate tillers and other tools and equipment. There are people who have a lot of experience freezing, canning and dehydrating the produce and they're willing to teach and share their knowledge. It's a win-win for everyone!

To get involved in my community, I used to volunteer a lot while I was in high school. I tutored students that were falling behind in high school and middle school. I also volunteered as a student teacher in a class of 2nd and 3rd graders. I've also done work at local Relay for Life promotions and events. I want to get back into volunteering, it gives me such joy to help people. I'm in college now so I'm busy busy busy, but I'm hoping to help people somehow this summer.

Me and my friend were talking about making a charity by having kids come and play sports at our schools gym and donate a dollar when they come and at the end we all could go donate it to the childrens hospital or go buy toys and all the kids could come and give them to the other children.

I think that what they do is really cool, and everyone can help buy shopping online.

My absolute favorite thing to do is volunteer at the homeless shelter. There is one located a few minutes from my house, and I really enjoy going during the Holidays and passing out food. They also have a program every Friday night where from 10p.m to 3 am where all the volunteers get into a motor home and travel around the city. They stop at several different locations and pass out food, clothes, toiletries, etc. I think helping others is one of the most rewarding feelings in the world. It makes me realize that I take what I have for granted, and they inspire me to be a better person.

think this organization is amazing. This is the first that I've ever heard of it. It's good to know that there's hope out there, that people actually still care about one another. It's so easy to get lost in your day to day, it's beautiful to see this. Thank you. I get involved in my community by donating to Hospice. It's a similar concept, where the funds from sales go back into a program to provide services to the terminally ill. There is another service here called Project Sanctuary that does fundraising and sales to assist people and families in domestic violence situations, with counseling and housing.
