Makeup Mistakes

Friday, April 30, 2010

What’s your most embarrassing beauty blunder?  Did you walk around with your lipstick on your teeth or forget to put mascara on both eyes? Or have you sported way to dark lip liner or ultra 80’s bright blush?  Let’s hear how you have become your own makeup artist and learned how to apply your makeup like the pros.

I've worn crazy blue sparkling eye shadow while wearing a purple top and jeans. It was wild and people kept looking at me like I was crazy!

I have a tendency to get ready for class in the morning with only my lamp light on. I was doing my makeup in my room and I was applying these two purple eyeshadows that i thought complimented each other well. Boy was I wrong I was in the restroom at school and got a look at my eyes. It looked liked I was a playing in my moms makeup. I had to walk around campus with two big purple circles around me eyes lol. Now I do my makeup in the bathroom where I should.

I learned the hard way to pack your makeup the NIGHT BEFORE a trip! I was such a hurry one morning that I grabbed what I thought was makeup and ended up using a tube of resin on my lips instead! Yuck.

Yes, stupid me, going to Beauty college studying to be a makeup artist in the '80's and one morning I carefully applied every detail to my makeup and hair because naturally the students look at everything- and talk! We are in theory and eveyone comes up to me one by one and comments, "great makeup but I noticed you didn't wear any mascara is something wrong? New look? Infection?" you name it they said it or tried to guess, I just forgot! It still bothers me to this day. Of course, that day I said to myself before I went to school that I looked so great I didn't need to bring my supply of makeup. To this day, I carry a makeup kit no matter where I go!

I tend to do my makeup every morning to go to work. This morning was a bit different I had to wake up earlier than usual so my eyes were a bit swollen, so I manage to put some eyeliner on my swollen eyelids. I thought it looked good, sice I had made it into a smokey eye look and no one would be able to notice that my eyes were swollen. Next thing you know im walking towards my car and my little brother is just starring at me and he says "is something wrong?" and i said no why, he said said " is because you look scary. I quickly grabbed my mirror and notice that the eyeliner was making my eye look like if I was a possesed racoon from a horror movie. The emberassing part was that I had no time to go back , so I went to work like that thinking the swelling was going to go away as soon as I got there but it didnt.

OMG! Funny you should ask... Had to stop on the way to work *this morning* because I forgot mascara! Couldn't figure out why my eyes looked so naked; (even with the rest fully complete) then it dawned on me... I had forgotten mascara... TGIF!

I've learned to check my face in the mirror once in a while when I'm at school for the entire day. I decided to try out a new eyeliner and thought it would be fine if I didn't test it on a day when I wasn't really doing anything. I ended up with hideous raccoon eyes, and when a guy walked by me and smiled, afterwards, I was really embarassed, it looked like I had been crying and smudged my eyes!

OMG, my most embarrassing moment is when I go out with my boyfriend and in the middle of a meal tells me i have lipstick on my teeth. Now, i smile wide before going out in front of a mirror.

Victoria's Secret "Beauty Rush" line has one of my all-time favorite lip glosses; "Smoothie Moves". The only problem? After wearing it for awhile, my lips (apparently!) get a white, flaky look about them... where I actually have to scrape off the gloss. Gross! I've learned to reapply often to avoid this (or put on a lip balm base), so that I don't get the side-eye from people wondering why my lips look awful!

Once when I was in a rush, i was applying my mascara, and I didn't tilt my head back, so there were these little dots of mascara all over my eyelids. It was totally obvious and i didn't even realize they were there until i got home from school! Now i always check in the mirror before I leave so that never happens again!

One morning, wake up late apply my makeup in a hurry, then off to work. After getting a few strange looks, someone finally asks me if I had dirt on my face. I look in the mirror only to realize I had forgotten to blend two large spots of concealer on the side of my face! They looked like two big leopard spots, it was horrible!

one time it was pouring rain and I didn't have a hood or hat so when I finally found some shelter at Tim Hortons, I got a lot of weird looks from people. When I went to the washroom i found my mascara running down to my cheeks! It was pretty embarrassing!

When i was first beginning to wear makeup i loved to mix different colors together. (This was in Junior High School) I didnt know what i was doing and ended up looking like a clown at times, but over the years i've toned it down a lot more. Although i still love color, i now know how to wear them.

i made the awful mistake of wearing fire engine red lipstick to winter formal. It wouldn't have been so bad had it not clashed horribly with my red hair! needless to say i've made it a point to learn what colors work best for my skin tone and hair color so i don't make the same mistake again.

I once used my blush as my foundation! My room was dark and I was in a hurry. I was mortified once I found out!

Once I was prepping for a date with my crush and I applied my makeup in artificial lighting (when there is no light from the windows, just a lamp). When I greeted him and we went off to eat pizza I saw in the reflection of the mirror heavy Gothic makeup...(I looked like a vampire!)

Several times, I've walked around thinking I looked good only to find out that my eyeliner had smudged. I make a habit now of ALWAYS bringing a mirror with me and checking it periodically. Thank you e.l.f. for the AWESOME makeup!

When I first started wearing makeup to correct blemishes, I only thought I needed to use concealer so I didn't have to cake on foundation all over. So, I bought a concealer that was like 10 shades lighter, but looked my color in the mirror. So, I walked around all day with bright white patches on my face... so awful!

I can remember not using mascara at all with my eyes all made up, or having a beautiful face look with no lips on. Thank God for learning make up from Mary Kay, Artistry, and now You Tube.

I look back on pictures from years past and my foundation was at least 3 shades lighter than my face and neck. I went around for years looking like I was trying to bring the geisha back. Now I have learned to check my foundation so I don't make the same mistake again.

I have tried to line my eyelid and waterline with a white pencil. My application was not only sloppy, but very thick. it looked really tacky. after a while , I looked like I had ashy eyes.(I am a black woman.) needless to say, I did research before I tried that
