Do you know that you could be washing yourself with mold and bacteria? It’s important to switch out your loofah every 3-4 weeks to prevent bacteria and mold growth which can cause rashes like folliculitis which is an infection of the hair follicles (you should toss a synthetic mesh bath pouf, which is more resistant to bacteria, after eight weeks). To keep your bath sponge lasting longer make sure to ring out the sponge of any excess water and hang in a ventilated area, you can also soak the sponge in bleach regularly to kill bacteria. By regularly cleaning and replacing your bath sponge you can keep germs from spreading in your bathroom and on your body!

Wow, I didn't know. I've been using my loofahs for longer than I should've. I will definitely change it more often. Weird to think mold is growing even though I can't see it..

Wow thanks for the heads up! I have been reading a lot of articles lately about beauty products, mainly makeup products that contain bacteria after long periods of time. It doesn't surprise me that a loofah needs to be switched out that much too. Mine has definitely been in my shower longer than a month... oops!

This is something I didn't know! I would always toss mine out when they would lose their shape. Ok, now I know to get rid of them every 3-4 weeks because of bacterial infections. Ewwww!!

This article was extremely helpful! I had no idea so much could occur due to not switching out a loofa. This was shocking, and completely changed my perspective upon sponges, loofas, r anything similar. THANK YOU!

I always told my roommate to air out her sponge, and she always thought that I was being neurotic. Thanks for the tip about dipping the sponge in bleach though! I've been using my loofah for way too long, my body feels so unsanitary now...

ugh....folliculitis!I know this condition very well.I have had this more than once in a very vulnerable area!(right at the crease of the bikini line and the inner thigh)Mine, caused by shaving & ingrown hairs,so make sure to use CLEAN razors or just skip shaving and opt for depilatories.Mine got so bad that I could not walk.It had worsened into a full blown abscess the size of an egg.Imagine the pain! This called for a visit to the Dr for lancing and antibiotics.Use a antibacterial bodywash...this helps alot.I am doomed for this condition flaring up for the rest of my life..so be careful ladies.Public hot tubs believe it or not,are also a no-no if you are suseptible.
Thanks for the loofah/pouf info...I will remember to replace it often.

Thanks for the tip! I knew that you had to continually change your sponges, but I never knew how often to change them.
