Self Tanners

Friday, June 25, 2010

We all want to glow like J.Lo and the Gisele but with skin cancer awareness on the rise, sales of self tanning products have sky rocketed. Companies like L’Oreal, Clarin’s, Jergens, and Neutrogena have all jumped on the bandwagon. The problem is finding the product that finishes smoothly without streaks, lasts longer than a day, and is virtually odorless. “Am I orange? Did I get that spot in the middle of my back? When can I get dressed already?” We’ve all been there.
Share your self tanner tips and secrets here! Which products have you picked up this summer?

Neutrogena has the best lotion that I've found. It's gradual, so little mess-ups aren't so obvious, but it only takes about 3 applications for me to be as dark as I want to be. The only con is that it still has that terrible sunless smell, but I've never used one without it...

I usually use loreals face glow moisturizer and I love it. If u apply it everyday you start to gradually notice your skin glowing. I apply it when my face it dry n leave it to set in while I do my hair. Jergens natural glow lotion is also good for your legs, if your like me and wear tons of summer dresses. :)

It seems like I've tried every product out there, but the one that works best for me is Jergens. I use it on my legs and it does give me that glow I would get from being out in sun, which is much safer of course.

My FAVORITE self tanners are: L'Oreal sublime glow FAKE BAKE self tanning lotion (very strong) & Jegens natural glow (gradual) I hate when self-tanners have that awful sticky smell & leave streaks, however I dont have that problem with these! For the best results make sure you shave and exfoliate prior to applying self-tanner. Try to use your palm instead of your fingers to apply evenly, and immediately wash your hands after applying.

I have tryed a lot of more things since finding elf. I will try this as well. Thanks for having good products without breaking the bank. Coming from a die hard MAC person, but the economy I have to mis-n-match to find good things all over.

I have been using the Jergens Natural Glow product and I love it. It takes a while for it to take full effect but I think its worth it. The first time you use it, it does give you a yellowish-orangy glow but after a few more applications, it starts to look more natural.

I use Jergans Body Glow in Medium; although my skin is light to medium the light doesn't turn as dark as I would like it so I use the lotion for medium skin tones. It's far the best moisturing lotion combination self-tanner I've used. I do exfoliate my skin before applying or else I'll end up with blothes all over and that means that I didn't take the time to properly exfoliate. When applied daily, there's a noticeable difference by the end of the week. I love it!

For a quick and easy tan look, I just use a mineral bronzer or darker shade of mineral powder with a kabuki brush over moisturized skin. E.L.F.'s kabuki body brush is great for covering larger areas of skin. I love that my mineral powders contain just a few ingredients and natural sunscreen without all the horrible chemicals that most of the commercial self-tanning products contain. Also, I get a smooth and even finish that I can easily control.

I love jergens it is realistic looking and doesn't get gooey or orange. I finish up with a shimmering lotion (not glittery) when going out.

For my legs, I use a wal-mart brand from Canada and its like a dupe for the body shops lotion, and for some reason it gives me a nice glow and has AN AWESOME SCENT ( mandrin orange ) only for 6 dollars! I would really want to try the jergens one and also hope ELF will release one! even better (:

jergens natural glow body lotion is definitely the best. you can even use it to gradually fade those pesky tanlines like sock-tans, shorts-tans, or tshirt-tans.

I'm naturally tan and I live in Calfornia, so there's no need for me to use self-tanner all over my body. But I like using bronzer on the shins and insides of my legs to make them look slimmer and more toned :) I also use bronzer under my cheekbones to make them more defined.

Well already being African American, I dont really need to tan so much. But when it comes to tanning, I use the natural sun. My tan only last two or three weeks but add some suntan lotion and jump in the sun for 15 minutes on each side of your body and call it a day. Nice golden tan!

Jergen's natural glow is the best for me, its not only moisturizing, it also gives me a tan. it gradually tan me, so it doesnt make me look fake. my friends are actually really jealous of my skin right now! and when i stop using it, the tan doesnt peel right off and makes me look was weird, it just naturally turns whiter back to my natural color. I LOVE IT!

I use Jergens natural glow face in medium starting in the spring to build up a natural looking glow with really no effort! I want to pick up the body version of this and try it out. I also love Nars bronzer in Laguna--great for summer! Also, make sure to exfoliate well before using any tanning products. Good luck and always remember your SPF!

I used Vaseline brand self tanner and I have very pale skin, when I used it on my legs I woke up to find my calves and thighs still the same, but my ankles a very unflattering yellow. It looked like I had a liver disease >:( Not reccommending it, but thats just me, so you may have a different view on it if you tan easier or have a little tanner skin tone than, well, porclain...

I prefer using Neautrogena to get a nice tan the spray can. Sometimes I find it difficult to apply it, but maybe I should try other products too.

It's officially summer and i've pulled out my go-to self tanner in preparation for a beachy summer glow. The product i'm referring to is the Sally Hansen Smooth Glow moisturizer w/ self tanner. It's a well-rounded product that moisturizes and gives you that gradually natural tan (no orangey mess!). I apply it to my arms and legs everyday for a healthy summer glow and a sweet vanilla scent to boot!

I actually like being paler... does anyone know of any products that might help without looking weird? Lighter foundation doesn't always work for me... but then again, I usually use powder foundation. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I'm hispanic and have skin that tans easily, but doesn't necessarily STAY tan. I've found that the only product that produces a natural-looking, long-lasting result that looks believably mine is Jergen's Natural Glow lotion. They make two types: one for fair to medium skin, and one for medium to tan skintones. It's awesome. The facial moisturizer of the same type is fantastic and has UVA/UVB protection as well.

If someone can find one that doesn't stink, PLEASE recommend it to me! I have used the cheaper Equate version, but it leaves me smelling like Saltine crackers.

I am all for self tanners. The funny thing is I just started one 2 weeks ago, I was so scared I would get the typical orange streaky look, not until I discovered L'Oreal sublime bronze. It is amazing and it is so worth trying, I apply it generously and daily and I have the most beautiful, natural summer glow ever! Love it!

Neutrogena's Sun Fresh self tanner is the best. It is oil free and non-commediogenic so you can even use it on your face. It only takes one application for the color to start showing up so you are not stuck smelling terrible for days while trying to build your tan. The color is totally natural and I haven't had a problem with streaking. Love this stuff!
