Stars Dropping Weight

Friday, December 17, 2010

We all fluctuate with our weight, but what about stars doing it for roles?  The already thin stars Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis of the upcoming Black Swan reportedly dropped 20 pounds each for the role. Mila Kunis said she was down to 95 pounds at the end of filming from the intense training. She told Nylon Magazine "It was the most intense training I’ve ever had in my life, and probably will have for anything. I looked like Gollum [from The Lord of the Rings],” she said.  What do you think, is it worth it for a role?

It's not worth it for a role because I believe that it will set you up for a lifetime of dieting and subsequent emotional distress when it doesn't go as planned.

I would think that most of the stars dropping weight or gaining weight for a role, do so with proper supervision. I am sure they are being monitored by a doctor and dropping or gaining in a healthy manner, by changing their diet and exercise habits and it isn't a permanent change.

This movie speaks volumes. What a wonderful caste that makes up such a fine set of characters.

It's not worth it, because the size don't make the personality of the person. I don't care if I'm watching a movie or T.V. that the people in those are big or small. The principal is the way they are acting.

The size should matter. It will give people something to look forward to. Now, not all the time, but once in a while people need some motivation.

I think for a role like that, It was worth it, but if you weren't careful in your weight loss, you could be risking your health, and to me that is not worth a role. These actresses most likely trained and ate a lot of protein so they didn't put their own health in danger. For a huge role like that, how could you pass it up?

i think if it's for this kind of role its ok as long as they lost the weight in a healthy way. and i'm pretty sure they will have no probs with gaining their normal weight back in a healthy way too.

I think that they do it for the art. Sometimes it might be scary, but I think that it is okay as long as they can differentiate between the movie and reality. If they are able to become healthy afterwards, it's up to them. It is their life's work, after all.

as long as they are careful, it should be okay. really, it isn't really up to us to decide whether it's worth it or not. if i were an actress, i would probably be willing to do it for the movie, but in a healthy way.

not worth it. it is too dangerous. immersing yourself too much in a role could be hazardous, as we've seen too often in the business.

personally, i don't think that it is worth it. it could endanger your health. i saw on television that mila broke some of her bones because she became so skinny.

Being an actor/actress is a job and I believe in accepting the job you accept the conditions the job brings be they adverse or favorable. Is it worth your job to put your body through drastic change? I guess it depends on the person. With celebs things like weight loss or gain is done under supervision I'm sure, the safest ways possible. If it weren't going to affect my life I'd say why not. If it would absolutely shorten or alter the quality of my life, probably not. I'd play a movie role for nothing if I'd get access to personal trainers and nutritionists in preparation. I'll never see anywhere near the 100 lb mark but I'd smile ear to ear every day if I got down about 50lb less than I am now. For millions of dollars I can see how you'd change your body for awhile, wise or not.

Losing that much weight is not good for your health. I have a lung disease and I have to eat snacks all day long just to keep weight on. I guess the question should be: Is the role worth hurting your health? Mom46

i accidentally made a retarded nickname lol! but i think it's perfectly fine, especially if it's for something you're passionate about, when they have a professional training them the whole time; telling them what to do to stay healthy.

I think it's worth it for a role. as long as you feel healthy and you aren't undereating, you're just working out extremely hard, then it's fine to lose a few pounds. it might not look good, but if you feel strong and healthy then it's worth it.

I think that it's okay as long as they are being careful. I imagine that they have trainers and nutritionists watching over them, so at least there are professionals to help keep them in check in case anything goes south.

I think it's definitely worth it...but only with supervision. Stars that gain or lose weight aren't doing it because of body issues or eating disorders. They're doing it for a job they love. And after they're finished shooting, they almost always work their way back to their normal body type. If it helps them do something they love, then I'm all for it.

It is worth it if they are still healthy, but not if they are hurting themselves.

They posted 4 exersizes the actresses did, and once I tried them I was sweeting like an elephant. Those girls do an amazing job in the movies, and I think that if they did it it is probably worth for them, especialy if your paid to loose weight. How great is that?

Not worth it! To be under 100lbs and you are over the age of 13 is just not right. Adding together the stress, long hours, and unhealthy diets that some of these actresses have to go through is heart failure waiting to happen. Just isnt worth it for any movie or any amount of money. To top it all off-these women are young girls role models. Not the example they should be setting.

and they wonder why so many girls struggle with their weight...it's disgusting. I'd love to see some women like me on the screen. People need to know size 10 is normal, not size 00 and 95 pounds.
