Tuesday, March 08, 2011

Almost 5yr old Suri Cruz was caught with a pacifier, how old should you separate the pacifier from a child?

Wow. I took away my son's paci the day he turned one. My daughter is almost 10 months old and I am already planning to take hers away.

I think this is a tad old. She should of been weened off when she was three years old.

i think once the child is of pre-school age, you should begin to ween him/her off the pacifier.

I think once the childs teeth start growing in, you should take it away. Otherwise it'll just mess up there teeth.

i think in this case the child shouldnt have the pacifier anymore, maybe after her teeth started growing.

I think if your child is old enough to use the bathroom on her own and manipulate her way through your iPad...probably time to take away the sacred pacifier. I was lucky enough that my daughter never even wanted one, but my son was a little over a year when we broke him of his. By the way...wasn't Suri also still drinking from a bottle at two?!

I think it should have been taken away by at LEAST 2 years old. Usually by the time a child learns how to walk they normally don't need it anymore. Or when their old enough to go to school.

I agree she is too old for a paci, but the good news is, they can take it away at anytime. It only takes 2 weeks to break a habit!

I honestly think its fine, when my sister was born i would steal her pacifier(kinda gross) and I was 5 too. As long as she is not so attached to it that she thinks she needs it and goes into a fit when she isn't allowed to have it. I think this whole uproar is just gonna pressure her parents into making her stop use one. And possible lead her to always need to be accepted by the public and the press

She's adorable...BUT they should take that away from her. My oldest son was off when he was about 18 months and it wasn't that bad like others claim. It took about 2-3 nights for him to get use to not having it to go to sleep. With my second son, I made the decision to not allow him to use one unless it was just really "one of those days." He probably uses one on average- 1-3 times a month. But 5! Come on now Kate and Tom, y'all know better than this!

my mom told me that she told me one night at bathtime that if i didn't give her the paci that all my teeth would fall out. so i gave it to her. and it works like that my sister never used to like the paci and my brohter who is four got off the paci when he was not even two. a five year old with a paci is ridiculous.

She is way too old to be on a paci. I say once a child begins to walk that thing should be taken away.

WOW!!! That is so very sad!! She is way to old for her ''binky''. It makes you wonder about her parents and how much quality time they give that poor baby!

Oh, LORD. My cousin used to suck on her thumb till she was about 10 and I think her thumb is still shriveled up! They have got to get her off of this boat before she drowns he thumb next. I think they should get off the paci when there about 1 1/2, its like a hush up tool for parents...and this cute little girl may be a demanding villan before they know it!

If they can have a conversation, it's definitely time to get rid of the pacifier. I'd say 2, tops.

Each child is different. We don't know her needs or issues. I understand the parents faith doesn't have the word "no" in it, so maybe that is the reason. I took my daughter off at 2 years and my mom told me I had a Suri issue so I can't judge but I hope it is soon as I hate to see her start school with a pacifier! She is a very beautiful child to have her face with that on it.

A parent should take a pacifier away from their child by the time they reach age 1, or else they will prepare their child for years of embarrassment.

This child needs a parent! Its not easy taking something away from a baby that soothes them but as a parent you know if it isn't done at the right time it will just be harder and more trumatic later on. If you can't bring yourself to do it or you just don't want to hear them cry for one night then at least set boundries, bedtime and only at home. Certainly not out in public at five years of age!

I think its best to ween a child of their pacifer by the time that they are a year old.

Give them a treat when you take it away from them. Take it away for a few hours and give them a snack or a trip to the park. Let them have their binky for a litle bit and then do it again. Eventually the child will no longer be dependant on it.

I took away the pacifier for both of my children on their first birthday. I started telling them it was "yucky". To me a child over the age of 2 is way to old to have a pacifier.

Ahh thats nuts! They need to take it away & trade it for something more age appropriate to pacify her with. I actually breast fed my daughter till she was 4 & now looking back, what was I thinking!? I mean it was healthy for her I guess but this pacifier deal is not cool, shes probably the only kid in school with that silly thing in her mouth!! Its gotta go...fast!
