Monday, September 26, 2011 I can't begin to tell you how much better technology has made my life! Facebook allows me to stalk my BFFs who live across the country, Google + has enabled me to have a group video chat with the girls from my freshman dorm, and I'm constantly browsing Pinterest for my next home decor project! Because of my obsession I've made a list of the five start-ups that can transform any elf-ettes life from just fabulous to UBER-FABULOUS! 1. Instagram - This photo editing tool can turn a photo from okay to glamour shot in 5 seconds! It also adds character, with a vintage feel, to photos. I am a constant over-sharer (obviously, it's my job!) and whether I'm tweeting, facebooking, or blogging, I always use instagram for those on-the-go posts that don't allow me to photoshop (guilty as charged) a little extra brightness to my skin. Case and point featuring yours truly on the right and my lovely friend Lindsey on the left.
2. Spotify -
This all-access music application allows you to listen to millions of tracks and artists on demand on your smart phone or PC! I'm so guilty of listening to a song over and over (AND OVER) again, eventually becoming sick of it and then it's buried deep into the archive of songs that I paid $1.29 for on iTunes that I will never listen to again. This is especially great for working out playlists as I need CONSTANT motivation
3. foursquare - When you live in a city like New York where there's an endless amount of restaurants, it's always nice to have a jumping off point when planning a dinner party with friends. foursquare allows you and your friends to explore your city (or a city your visiting) based on recommendations of the people you trust most, your friends! You also earn points and badges for checking into the most places and the most valuble places. While you don't win actual prizes (most of the time) bragging rights are ABSOLUTELY worth it in my group. My BFF Ashley is always winning and her gloating is by far the most awesome! Most elf-ettes are also bargainistas and there are tons of restaurants and stores that offer exclusive discounts JUST for checking in!
4. Rent the Runway - Rent the Runway is an online retailer that lets you rent dresses straight from the runways of New York Fashion Week for a fraction of the price! It's still a little pricey to Rent the Runway, but when you have a special occasion coming up and can't be seen in something that you've already worn it's definitely the cheaper alternative to buying a new dress! Pictured here are my bff Ashley (remember? queen of foursquare) and I at a birthday party where I'm wearing a Tibi dress from Rent the Runway!
5. Pinterest - Whether I'm helping my best friend from college plan her wedding (I'm the Maid of Honor!!) or I'm trying to re-decorate my apartment on a budget. Pinterest is a great place for inspiration and for storing your ideas. I even save makeup looks I'd like to try. My style is big hair and old hollywood glamour as you can see in this screenshot of my style pins! Also, you can follow me here: http://pinterest.com/britmorton/!
What are your favorite and "can't live without" technology innovations?! xo, Brittany (e.l.f. Social Media Maven)
