Worst Beauty Blunders of all Time

Tuesday, January 31, 2012

1. Translucent Powders: I can't count the amount of times I've seen this happen to celebs on the red carpet. Yes, translucent powder works on everyone but you need to blend it out! Sometimes just brushing it off isn't enough to hide it when the flash goes off. Another point to make is, if you have very dark skin, a translucent powder with an peach or orange tint would be better suiting as it will not leave a grey cast. If you find that the translucent powder is still giving you flashback in photos, try a powdered foundation instead.

2. An Oompa Loompa Fake Tan: Trying to achieve a natural glow to the skin is as easy as going to the pharmacy and buying some gradual tanning lotion. Unfortunately it's easy to go overboard, especially if we try to do this without our friends help. Try a professional spray tan salon that uses more brown/red pigments in their dye than orange. This way you'll have a natural looking tan applied by a professional! Hair color is also an important factor for achieving a natural fake tan. In Christina's case, her hair is bleach blonde and her skin is ORANGE. If her air was red, her skin would fade into her hair and that would look really weird.

3. Going Overboard: In general, my makeup motto is "Enhance your natural features while letting them shine through". I'm also all for experimenting and having fun with makeup, but sometimes too much is TOO MUCH. For example, Leighton went for a smoky eye and a matte red lip. I give her credit for embracing her inner glamazon, but it's a little overwhelming. Maybe go for a smoky eye and a nude lip, or a neutral eye and a red lip- something more balanced.

4. Nude Lips: Nude lips are sexy and sultry when done right. But when done wrong, we risk looking dead or worse, CRAZY!  In this case, Jennifer was a little darker than usual, and her usual nude lipstick wasn't cutting it for her. The perfect nude lip will match your skin tone. If you're really dedicated, keep a backup lipstick- have one shade for the winter months and one for the summer months when your most tan.

5. Overdrawn Brows: Having sparse brows could be a nightmare. But overdrawn brows are even scarier. If you know you have a heavy hand, or fear overdrawn brows, try using a powder instead. Sometimes pencils and gels let us get carried away but the softness of the powder will apply lightly and smoothly and can be blended out with a brush if overdone.

I'm pretty sure I'd done all of these...lol But now that I am in my mid-20s...I make sure to double check everything..and if a self-tanner turns me orange I am not leaving the house til it fades. lol

You used the wrong 'your' in number four near the end. It's you're. Short for you are... "....have one shade for the winter months and one for the summer months when your (YOU'RE) most tan" Sorry, but it was bothering me.

I must admit that I go a little heavy on the brows sometimes. It's not intentionally, but after the fact, I do notice it. I just need a brow product that is precise but has long staying power.

The powder Eva is wearing is an HD Microfinish Powder. It works for HD television but NOT in a picture taken with a camera using a flash. Regular powders, translucent or not, don't look like that in flash pics. ELF's HD powder will leave a white cast, but compared with others it isn't as bad. Bottom line; don't wear HD powder when you will have your pic taken.

When i first got into manicuring my eyebrows and whatnot, I used to overdraw them with the pencil. Luckily, I've gotten a lot better :)

I thought these celebs could do better than this. you would think they would have makeup artists or something! So many people get spray tan even after they see how everyone else's have messed up.

The biggest blunder I am guilty of is the dreaded foundation line where your head looks like a tan balloon sitting on your neck that doesn't match any more due to heavy foundation that was not blended properly. lol, thank goodness I learned.

The first one is from reflextive concealer... not powder

Ouch! These all look terrible! I always felt lucky that I had tons of makeup when I was little to play with. My mom wouldn't let me wear any makeup out of the house until I was 14, so the years before that were the experimental years that taught me to ditch the blue eyeshadow + hot pink lipstick combo...

Still No Order shipped they are taking about two weeks to ship an order. They cannot keep up. It is questionable that if you order now if you will get it by Christmas. Order today packs in 7 business days. and ships to west coast and it will never make it. Save your Christams order somewhere else. They do not answer their phone to cancel, they say there phones are broken. For a week???? Sure I believe you. I am sending a registered letter to cancel my order and I am stopping payment on my CC. If you ship the product anyway, it will be your problem. BAD BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE RUNNN while you can.

Patti, I disagree with the reason for the first blunder. The flash photography is either reflecting off of products with titanium dioxide (sunscreen) or they used a "high definition" product, that is fantastic for film, but not for flash photography. I just heard about the culprit in another beauty vlog.

I'm absolutely thankful I found this blog. Totally disappointed and a little miffed at the fact that this HD powder does this. I couldn't believe it so tried it out myself. Results : showed my kids a non flash pic mom looks normal. Showed them a pic using a flash.... And "mom you look old! Like elderly old". I'm in my late 30s, look like I'm in my early 20s. Not with this powder tho! Glad I found out BEFORE a night out. Doubtful I will use this at all now since one never knows when a girlfriend will have a candid shot taken! Yes I blended. Yes I looked totally normal in the regular picture. Looked like I belonged in a morgue when the flash was used. Excuse me while I pout and grumble!
