Whats Hot: Kate Upton Bites Back

Monday, July 16, 2012

Kate Upton, despite her revealing day job, is becoming a role model for young women. A self-proclaimed “anti excess” blogger, SkinnyGossip.com, attacked the gorgeous Sports Illustrated model’s voluptuous look calling her “thick” and “vulgar” among other things. She even went as far to compare her to a cow and claimed that Kate has become “well-marbled” at the ripe age of 20. While everyone in the lime light will always have a few extra eyes of scrutiny watching her, Upton dealt with the situation head on. She commented back with this, "I'm not going to starve just to be thin. I want to enjoy life and I can't if I'm not eating and miserable."

This isn’t the first time she’s lashed back to a comment about her body. Kate has been going against the grain of the fashion industry since she started her career in modeling. She began as a self-proclaimed plus-size model and used social media to create a buzz around herself, rather than getting in with a modeling agency like most runway stars. She loves her curves and refuses to get rid of them just to conform to what the fashion industry believes is beautiful, ultimate thinness. Instead, she has ultimate confidence and sticks up for what she believes is right. She’s been put down by many talent agencies and brands, including Victoria’s Secret whose top talent booker, Sophia Neophitou, said, “She is too obvious. She’s like a page 3 girl. She’s like a footballer’s wife, with the too-blond hair and the kind of face that anyone with enough money can go out and buy.”

Much to their surprise, and many fan’s delight, Upton is regularly on the cover of popular magazines, including Vogue. In regards to her career she said, “It was hard when I was first in the industry and people were like: ‘No, you are fat.’ But my body is something that you have to work out and eat healthily for.”

What do you guys think? Is she happy and healthy or are the critics right?

For a lot of people, that is a healthy weight. Forget society's opinion, I think she's doing great standing up for herself and proving that beauty isn't just skinniness!

She's gorgeous! The beauty industry is far too obsessed with skinny. It would be laughable if it weren't so damaging to women.

they think this is fat?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!? the day she hits 200 lbs, we'll talk. remember when jennifer love hewitt was called fat? same idea. this is all psycho bs just to make people feel like there is something wrong with you. liking yourself is almost illegal. eat, drink, be merry, life your life. someone will always watch and judge. but if you are too busy living your life, you won't have time to critize others.

agree that this young woman is totally gorgeous and I have nothing but admiration for her....she has not bought into the absurdity that waif thin is the ideal of beauty...a myth I believe was created by men and modeling agency / media staff! How ludicrous that the people judging her looks are probably pouchy/pot bellied soon to be graying/balding members of the most plastic industry in the world!!!!!

Anyone who thinks Ms. Upton is fat has some serious body image issues of their own they need to deal with. This woman is truly stunning. If ever there were a bombshell in today's fashion industry, she is it! I'd much prefer to see a woman who does have curves, and doesn't look like she would fall over if the wind blew. And besides that, she's rocking it for all it's worth. If she's a plus sized marbled cow, what does that make the rest of us?

Kate looks amazing! I suppose all these bimbo's trashing her are total perfection, right? Are they all 5'10 and weigh in at 97lbs?? Do they have naturally blonde hair and perfectly asymmetrical faces? Word to you critical harpies: let someone critique your fat butts, sagging boobs and bad skin before you proclaim your obvious jealousy out too loudly.

FAT?! I think she is sexy as hell! As soon as I read this article, I told my husband that she's considered a plus-sized model, something neither of us knew, and that the industry was calling her a cow. We both were dumbfounded. He said, "Who cares what they think! She's the perfect woman! Other than you, of course." Aawww..... But to call her fat or even thick is absurd. When will the beauty industry finally realize that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes. Fat.....I'm still dumbfounded....

I cannot believe they think she is fat. She doesn't look fat at all in that photo. Her horrible boob job and ugly face is another story, however.

I agree with the other commentors that she is gorgeous. The fashion industry is clearly obsessed with overwhellmingly skinny girls. Not only is it not attractive its also physically impossible for some of us. It's about time that more "average" girls start entering this business to prove that you dont have to be a stick to be attractive. I applaude Kate for being brave enough to stand up for herself, and with out knowing it for those who have been put down by the fashion industry.

Today's society is so screwed up! What happened to woman like Marilyn Monroe, who were like size 12, being beautiful?! It makes me sick that being skin and bones is considered skinny. Kate Upton is gorgeous and I would give anything to look like her! Good for her for not giving in to the pressures of society!

She's way more beautiful than the anorexic stick models the fashion industry refuses to let go. She is a breath of fresh air. Women and girls now know that being thin and skin and bones is unappealing in the real world. Those are unhappy with their looks and are attacking her. They need to get real. And as for footballers wife, your damn right they like women with curves not harsh corners.

Isn't it about time people live out their lives based on how they feel rather than living up to societies sick and twisted lack of reality? She looks great. She is a leader more should follow.

As a model myself, I know the fashion industry. Kate Upton's measurements are actually smaller than the avaerage woman's. In the fasion world plus sized is actually average.

She is gorgeous! It looks like some people just can't contain their green-eyed monster. I think thin models are gross...I would NEVER want to look like what I see in magazines.. no way!

Ok, where exactly is she "fat?" I think the industry is ridiculous thinking emaciated is what the "look" should be. No wonder there are so many low self-esteemed girls out there.
