We've heard about it for months and now the 2012 Olympic Games are finally here....well they're in London but we can watch them on TV! The US Women's Gymnastics team is heavily favored to win the gold, both as a team and for the all-around individual gold medal! What's even more amazing is that all the women on this team have never been to the Olympic games and all are under the age of 18. Talk about some strong women! The top contenders for the medal are Gabby Douglas (16), Jordyn Wieber (17) and Kyla Ross (15). Gabby Douglass trained alongside Shawn Johnson until she retired in June 2012, and won the US Olympic trials over the favored star Jordyn Wieber. She's most skilled on the uneven bars but pulls a killer performance on the balance beam as well. Jordyn Wieber, winner of thegold medal in the all-around competition at the 2011 World Championships, is said to be the best female gymnast in the US, and will lead the team alongside Douglas. She blows away the competition on the vault and the floor. Kyla Ross is the youngest of the women on Team USA and was very vocal about her desire to be a part of Team USA at the Olympic trials. While she's the underdog, experts still think she has serious talent which may give her a chance at a shiny gold medal. What Olympic sports will you guys be following?! Do you think the US Gymnastics Women can bring home a team gold medal?! (Photo: Courtesy of Facebook) |
