Which Eyeliner Brush Is Right For You?

Friday, February 08, 2013

If you're new to makeup, I'm sure the assortment of eyeliner brushes can lead to a ton of confusion. Here's a guide to which eyeliner brush is right for you.

Studio Angled Eyeliner Brush: This brush is used for precision. The bent part of the brush helps you create your look at a comfortable angle and it's also great for creating a winged effect with your eyeliner. This brush can be used with Cream Eyeliner or even Pencil eyeliner for precision. For use with Pencil Eyeliner, just take some product onto your brush by dipping it into the pencil. The creamier the pencil, the easier it will be to pick up with the brush!

Flat Eyeliner Brush: This brush is also known as the 'Push- Brush' because it is used to 'push' eyeliner into the lash line. This brush is great for using a powder eyeshadow as an eyeliner and getting really close to the lash line for a clean and seamless line. It's also great for applying eyeliner to the lower lash line. The shape of the brush really helps get under the lashes to create a clean line.

Small Smudge Brush: This brush is ideal for any smoky eye. You can apply, and smudge out your liner for a smoky sultry effect. Use with Cream Eyeliner, Pencil Eyeliner, or even Eyeshadow. The shape of the brush also lets you create a wing  when turned sideways.

Small Angled Brush: This brush is kind of foolproof. the shape of the bristles lets you create a straight and even line with any eyeliner of your choice. You can also create a wing with this brush when you turn it around and apply it from the outer edges and bring it in to connect to your eyeliner. This brush might be better for beginners with Cream Eyeliner because you can use short strokes and have a great line every time.

What's your favorite eyeliner brush?

I absolutely adore using the angled liner brush. It gives me such a thin, crisp line. I can really get close to my lashes and i can even line my Easter and tight lines.

I've been using the small angled brush to do almost all of my eyeliner, since I tend to use gel and cream most days. Sometimes I'll go over that with a flat eyeliner brush and eyeshadow to set it.

I am a small smudge brush girl. I love using eye shadow as liner, but I don't like it heavy. I would like to try the angled eyeliner brush though.

I like to use multiple brushes. I start with a thin brush then use a small flat angled brush.

I am a newbie with using eyeliner brushes, but I feel the smudge brush works best for me since it works great to fix when I overdo on the eyeliner

I LOVE the Small Angled Brush. I have tried using all of the others, and this one gives me the most versatility, whether I'm trying to do a work-appropriate barely-there line or a full-on cat eye. I suck at liquid liner, but this brush paired with e.l.f.'s Cream Eyeliner are amazing at creating any look!

I love using the angled brush best - my tip; I layer colors, even thought I'm middle-aged, it's a way to add a little zip!

My absolute FAVORITE is the flat liner brush, I picked it up a few months ago and it is still going strong. As said in the description, it's prefect for pushing down liner for a fuller lash effect or even a thin line. I absolutely adore it!!

love the angle brush---gives me a line, thick or thin and real close to the lash line. I pull the outer upper lid out a bit and apply.

I really love the tiny brushes that come with e.l.f.'s Cream Liners. The short handles make them easier to control. If I'm going for a precise winged liner I like to do it before the rest of my eye makeup so I can use remover to clean up any mistakes. Then I use that as a guide and go over it again after my shadow is applied to darken it. And I use the Studio Angled Brush to apply white cream shadow then smudge shadow over it as quick DIY colored liner.

The angled eyeliner brush with gel or cream eyeshadow. I will have to try using it with a pencil. Thanks for the tip!
