The Perfect Match or Too Matchy-Matchy?

Wednesday, September 25, 2013

There are a lot of unspoken rules in fashion (Whether you follow them or not, we're happy to condone both!), and many of them translate into beauty. You know: Don't wear white after Labor Day, start transitioning your summer makeup into autumn makeup after Labor Day, that sort of thing (How boring! Who says you can't wear a gorgeous white frock, or sunny makeup, into fall???). When we heard of the latest trend of matching your nails to your lipstick, we couldn't help but think of the outdated fashion rule of matching your shoes to your bag. Why on earth does it matter?

But, at the same time, we love the neat, streamlined look of this as well. Case in point: Lana Del Rey's matching burgundy nails and lip definitely pull her vampy look together. Yet there's definitely room for this trend to get too matchy-matchy. If you want to try this look, we say keep it neutral and natural, a nude lip with a natural French manicure, for instance. Or go wild! Try a tangerine lip with neon orange nails, even hot pink!

What do you think of this trend? Would you try it?

Sara

I match everything I can! I will not be a slave to the "rules" of fashion ;) they change back and forth anyway... I pay attention to tips like bold eyes OR lips and try to balance my overall look but my personal preference is to coordinate whether it's trendy or not!

Well, seeing as my nails are yet again black and holo sparkly, I don't think I'll be matching my lipstick to my nails. I can get away with black nails, black lipstick isn't going to go over with my job.

Too much trouble as I never know until I am fully dressed as to what lipstick I am going to wear.

Definitely not a new trend and not too "matchy-matchy". In the early 1950's, it was a sign of sophistication to match your lips to your nails. Love it!
