BACK
the three levels of CONTOURING

Monday, April 21, 2014

Hey Elfettes! You've been begging to see a how-to on contouring, so here it is! We've got the most basic to the most advanced technique on how to achieve this beautiful affect.Wether you're a powder or liquid girl, there are so many ways to try to contour! Check out the diagram and steps below to help you.

FOR POWDER LOVERS:
We've started with an overall layer of the Mineral Foundation and added in a light Pressed Powder and a deep Pressed Powder. We suggest you use three different brushes for each application of color to get the best results. We've used the following brushes:
• for all over, the Studio Powder Brush works very well for even coverage.
• to add the light powder at the high points of your face, the Studio Blush Brush adds a perfect amount of light.
• to contrast with the deep powder, the Studio Angled Brush is perfect.

FOR CONCEALER EXPERTS:
We used the Studio Under Eye Concealer and Highlighter for the light areas of the face and added deep colors from the Complete Coverage Concealer Palette for the dark areas. The best way to blend is either using your fingers or the Studio Flawless Concealer Brush.

FOR LIQUID OR CREAM FOUNDATION ADDICTS:
This technique takes a bit more time, but works the best to slim down your face. We used the Studio Moisturizing Foundation Sticks to achieve the light and deep effects. You could also use e.l.f. liquid or cream foundations and get the same result.

Do you have a special way to contour? Share it in the comments section!

xoxo
Sonia

I have been highlighting and contouring with the Studio Moisturizing Foundation Sticks in Ivory and Coffee (I am very fair). I love the process, but the colors are a little off. I love the coffee for a semi-dramatic contour, but it is much too warm. The Ivory is not light enough to be a highlighter for me. I would love to see elf add highlighting and contouring sticks, where the highlights have much lighter shades and the contours are more cool gray based browns that create a more believable shadow.

Kim K, I TOTALLY AGREE!!! I do the same, and am also very fair, with pink undertones. I'd love to see elf make a foundation stick in something similar in color to Spotlight liquid highlight, but with a bit more VERY LIGHT IVORY Skintoned, with a matter option too..
