Ten Biggest Makeup Mistakes
Ten Biggest Makeup Mistakes
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 2009

Make-up can be used in so many different ways – to freshen a tired face, glamorize a look, define features – the list is endless. No matter what you are wanting to achieve with your make-up application just make sure you are following these 10 basic rules:

  • Don’t wear heavy, defined lip liner around your mouth. These days even patting your lipstick shade onto your lips with your finger creates a modern affect. If it looks like your lips have been stained by sucking a lolly pop it’s good!
  • Never leave your eyebrows unplucked – this looks unkept, messy and boyish. Groomed brows ‘open up’ your eye area and create a groomed, polished appearance.
  • Do apply a cream textured concealer over your eyelids and under your eyes. This will freshen the skin around your eyes and make you look years younger. Use just enough to ‘dumb’ the discoloration around the eyes, blend well and then set your concealer with a little loose powder for holding power.
Check out elf’s cream textured concealer:
Rather than applying your bronzer all over your face, add color and glow to your face by focusing on the apple of your cheeks. Think about why you should not add bronzer all over your face = you even out your skin tone with a foundation and powder that matches your skin color exactly, then you apply a bronzer all over your face that does not match the color of your skin, basically undoing all the evening out your created with your foundation and powder. It makes no sense to undo what you have just tried to achieve.
These elf products work beautifully on the cheek area to add color and glow to the face: bronzing powder, radiance blusher, and all-over color stick.

Makeup Tips for Lips - Debbie Jean
Makeup Tips for Lips - Debbie Jean
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 05, 2009

Making the right choice when it comes to lip shades is an important part of your make-up application. Here are some tips to help you choose a suitable shade.

Take the following into account when choosing a lip shade

  • Your personality: Lipstick color is such a personal thing and it should therefore be chosen by you personally. Expecting someone else to choose it for you is like asking them to choose what shoes or accessories you should be wearing. Out going vibrant people tend to prefer brighter shades, whilst those that are more reserved prefer subtle shades for their lips.
  • If you have small lips stick to lighter or brighter shades rather than going darker. Perhaps opt for lip gloss instead of a solid lipstick color.
  • Fuller lips can be enhanced or detracted from depending which you are trying to do. To enhance use lip gloss, bright lipsticks or striking deep shades. To detract from full lips use neutral, matte shades this will help tone down and detract from a full mouth.
  • Keep an eye on lipstick trends, pearlised lipsticks are not in at the moment. Juicy, glossy formulas come and go whilst the matte red lip seems to be a true classic.
  • Avoid applying obvious lines of lip liner this looks dated. Blend your lip liner inside your lip edge to create a less obvious look and then fill in your entire lips with gloss or lipstick.
  • If your lips are pink you may not require much lip color and opt for a lip gloss rather than a lipstick. Whilst those who have pale lips might want to add color by using a lip stick shade.

A handy trick is to apply a shimmery highlighter to the bows of your top lip. This creates a lovely highlight to your lips.

Make-up Tips to Look Years Younger
Make-up Tips to Look Years Younger
THURSDAY, JULY 02, 2009

When it comes to applying make-up there are a few key points that you can follow to achieve a fresher younger look:

  • Applying a generous amount of mascara to your top eye lashes and only a small amount to your bottom lashes. This creates a lifting upward illusion to the eyes. A thick application of Mascara on the bottom lashes also smudges, making you look tired and older.
  • If you find your eye liner pencil tend to smudge easily (pencils are moist and waxy, so tend to smudge) Use a dark eye shadow and a small firm brush to apply as your eyeliner. I use e.l.f’s Small Precision Brush to apply my eye shadow as eyeliner - instead of using an eye liner pencil.
  • By shaping your eyebrows you open and lift the eye area creating a mini ‘eye lift’ effect.
  • Use a loose powder rather than a compact powder, compact powders apply a heavier layer of make-up onto the skin and cake into fine lines and wrinkles.
  • The more foundation you wear on your skin, the older it will look. Make-up cakes into fine lines on the skin. Liquid foundations work best.
  • Opt to wear a loose powder over your foundation. Loose powder not only sets your foundation in place, it also reduces the shine on the skin. Shine attracts light to the lines on your face and this illuminates them. A matte face is a fresher younger looking face. Matte does not mean over powdered and dry looking – a little powder goes a long way.
  • If you don’t have a lot of eyelid visible when your eyes are open, use a highlighter (eye shadow) like cream or white to create the illusion of more lid space. The light shade will also make your eyes look fresher.
  • Concealer can be applied over your eye lid and through your crease area. It numbs any pink or dark skin over the eye surface. This trick is used my make-up artists to make clients eyes look younger and fresher. You can also apply concealer under your eyes to numb dark circles – just avoid the area to the outsides of the eyes, where your fine lines are. e.l.f. has an amazing creamy textured concealer that is soft enough to use over your eye area. The name of the concealer is: All Over Cover Stick. Here is the link: http://www.eyeslipsface.com/face/all_over_cover_stick
  • Use pinkie or peachy toned blusher on the apple of your cheek to lift life and color into your face.

Visit my make-up website to learn more tips and tricks used by make-up artists.  I also offer: On-line personalized skin tone and make-up guides. If you would like to order your on-line analysis today, I am offering all e.l.f. customers a 20% discount. Use this link to access the discount: http://www.realwomenmakeup.com/offer_discount.html
