Gold & Glorious: Our Favorite Gold Medalists!
Gold & Glorious: Our Favorite Gold Medalists!
THURSDAY, AUGUST 09, 2012

It's no secret that Team Elf has had Olympic fever all summer, but we want to recognize our favorite Gold Medalists from Team USA!

We've had a girl crush on Gabby Douglas from the beginning. Not only did her underdog status have us rooting for her but her smile is infectious and now she has A LOT to be smiling about! She won the Individual all-around Gold Medal and led the women's gymnastics team to Gold. She's one of the most confident and strongest teenagers you'll meet and she never buckles under pressure. Here's what she had to say to USA Today on the subject, "Pressure?" she said with a radiant smile. "I love it. I love to stick the landing like there is no tomorrow. You stick the landing and it's like, 'Game on.' I'm so ready for this. My mom says I'm a fighter, a fierce competitor, and I think I am, too."

With this winning attitude we're looking forward to watching Gabby take the gymnastics world by storm!

Missy Franklin was the heavy favorite for the 200-meter backstroke and she won the Gold...and also set a World Record! With a time of 04.06 she is the fastest female backstroker in the world! That's not all she won, her medal count, kept climbing throughout the weekend leading her team to Gold for the 4x100m medley and 4x200m freestyle, as well as scoring another individual Gold in the 100m backstroke.

She also turned down millions of dollars because she wants to swim in college. She's always paved her own path in the swimming world, sticking with her same coach since she was 7 and refusing to specialize in one stroke early on (which allowed her to qualify for the vastly different backstroke and freestyle. As if we didn't love her enough already, she also dedicated her Olympic victories to the movie theatre victims in her hometown of Aurora, CO. As Michael Phelps retires from the world stage of swimming, we're excited to watch Missy take over!

Who are your favorite Olympic athletes!? Tell us why!
