Olivia's Berry Good Look!
Olivia's Berry Good Look!
WEDNESDAY, JULY 16, 2014

The beauty looks I'm seeing on the red carpet this season continue to surprise me! From earth tones to metallic eyes, it seems that looks msot of us generally associate with fall are bleeding into summer. No complaints from this elfette--with the insane humidity in NYC this July, a makeup cool-down sounds super refreshing! When I spotted this recent red carpet look from Olivia Munn, it was exactly what I needed to take my mind off the summer swelter: An autumn-toned berry lip! Her golden eye look also harkens to cooler months, but her glowing, dewy skin still reminds us it's summer! This is a total transition look, I wouldn't be surprised to see more of this combination as the weather cools down.

Want to try a darker, deeper lip this summer? Our artists recommend our Mineral Lipstick in Ripe Rose (for warmer tones) or Beautiful Berry (for cooler tones) as well as our Essential Lipstick in Posh. If you'd prefer a stain for longer-lasting wear, try our Essential Lip Stain in Berry Blush. For a sheer, summer-ready look that nourishes too, try our Studio Conditioning Lip Balm in Blissful Berry or Essential Lip Balm Tint in Berry.

To get that dewy, summer skin, opt for a tinted moisturizer or BB cream instead of heavy foundation to provide sheer, even skin--Notice how Olivia's freckles aren't covered up! A liquid highlighter (Try our Shimmering Facial Whip in Spotlight) is perfect for that gorgeous glow. Our artists even recommend mixing a dab in with your moisturizer for effortlessly radiant skin. Want something more precise? Try our Essential All Over Color Stick in Spotlight, or our Studio Baked Highlighter in Moonlight Pearls.Stunning! And of course, since it is still summer, give yourself a spritz with our Studio Makeup Mist and Set to set your look, brighten up your finish, and prevent and makeup meltdowns!

How do you keep your makeup looking cool in the summer?

beauty how-to: SWEET MATTES
beauty how-to: SWEET MATTES
WEDNESDAY, JULY 16, 2014

Hey gorgeous! Are you absolutely sick of shimmery and shiny faces all over the place? SO AM I! Sometimes you just have to change it up and get into matte-mode, especially in this blazing summer heat. Mattes are great to control oil and they're especially useful for people with textured or acneic skin. Hide that bumpy skin elfette, instead of exaggerating it with shimmer and shine. If you've never experimented with our amazing HD POWDERS, here's your chance!

STEP 1
Esther is normally oily, so I began by dusting her face with the e.l.f. Studio High Definition Powder to create a matte canvas before foundation. Then I applied a few, light, layers of the e.l.f. Pressed Mineral Foundation in Beige using the Studio Powder Brush. This brush is amazing for powder foundations, as it creates soft-focus coverage.

STEP 2
Pick up a matte pink shade from the e.l.f. Studio 18 Piece Eye Shadow Palette, using your "C" Brush and then apply over the lid. I used a pink that is blue-based in order to work with Esther's tan complexion. Pat the shadow on up to the crease to even out the lid.

STEP 3
In honor of our birthday celebration, I whipped out my PINK, Crystal Brush Set to blend a matte, grey color onto Esther's edge. This allows for light definition in the eye! Blend, blend, blend until the grey is diffused.

STEP 4
These eyes really pop with a liner! I used the e.l.f. Mineral liner in Ash, very close to her lash line. This helps to give the appearance of more lashes and a bigger eye. Plus, the grey really enhances her brown eyes.

STEP 5
Time to focus on your skin. I covered any small acne marks by using the Flawless Concealer Brush and a combination of HD Powder with Concealer. Mixing the cream and powder creates a very strong formula that is sure to stay on the cheeks without easily smearing or sweating off.

STEP 6
Esther's cheeks are flawless with the e.l.f. Mineral Pressed Blush! I applied it using my crystal brush set and then blended into the skin. Finish off your look with a Matte Lipstick, like Tea Rose. This color never fails :)

ARTIST TIPS
For light use of the HD powder, use a brush. For a very matte feeling under or over foundation, try using the e.l.f. Essential Powder Puffs. If you're being photographed, try not to use too much HD powder to set your makeup at the end but use it before foundation to avoid a ghostly face!

What is your favorite matte product? Let me know in the comments and I'll feature you next week!

xoxo

beauty how-to: EVENING EYES
beauty how-to: EVENING EYES
THURSDAY, JULY 10, 2014

As they say— "the eyes are the windows to the soul," and these windows are flirty! I love using color to create a half-smoky effect because it can truly enhance the shape and beauty of your eyes. Did you know about e.l.f.'s AMAZING range of shadows and formulas? You just can't beat the quality and price on this look... it's a must try and is so much easier to create than you think!

STEP 1
Apply a
PRIMER to make sure all of your shadows stay on. Then pat on e.l.f. Essential Smudge Pot in "Pearls of Wisdom," using the "C" brush from the limited edition, LUXE BRUSH COLLECTION. This will create a strong, shimmering base over your lid! And c'mon... this look is a perfect excuse to use what’s inside of the clutch and then take it out for the night!

STEP 2
It’s our 10th BIRTHDAY...so of course I used the
Mineral Pressed Eyeshadow, in "Birthday Cake," over the entire lid. Again, just use your "C" brush to save time and create an even layer of color. This shadow has a sweet name and an even sweeter color!

STEP 3
Get creative with your makeup and use things for multiple purposes, like blush on the eyes. Try applying the
e.l.f. Studio Blush in "Pink Passion," in the crease of your eye to allow all of the colors to blend well. It will add a pretty pop of color under the deeper shades to come. Use the Angled Eye Brush from the clutch to apply.

STEP 4
Keeping with the mineral trend, I used
"Forest Frolic" and "Rockin Out" on the edge of the eyes. You can blend with the brush used in the previous step to allow the colors to mix well and save time! Begin with the lighter shade and then build up the corners of the eye with a darker shade.

STEP 5
At this point, define the eyes a bit more with some
e.l.f. Studio Precision Liner and then apply several, wet layers of Mascara

STEP 6
Finish off those gorgeous eyes with a bit of liner applied to your inner rim, on the lower part of your eye. I used a combination of the
e.l.f. Mineral Eye Liner's in "Metallic Purple" and "Black." Again, always start with the lighter color and then use the darker shade to define and add depth. Be generous with the lighter color!

ARTIST TIP
Ladies with mature skin who want some drama in the eyes- keep your shadows matte to avoid making texture look worse!

xoxo
